Need to change one of my tyres, but the splines have rounded off the bolt itself. Does anyone have any suggestions?

A lad at work takes all the bolts out and gets a pry bar and from the back of the wheel stretches the bolt by baring the wheel and then uses a old socket or hex socket and smashes it over or in the bolt and then should be free enough to ratchet them out !!
