Limp mode and black smoke

    Hi adding this for a friend to see what his problem could be,i was driving it today and for there was not alot of power when i put my foor down it went into limp mode and did not pullaway atall,but when the car was turned off then on again was fine i was doing 60 in 4th gear dropped down to 3rd no pull felt laggy and loads of black smoke out the exhaust,i was thinking the turbo on its way out any help cheers,also the car is a vw golf gt tdi desil 110bhp remapped to 150bhp...

    all the 1.9tdi engines famously go into limp mode on a regular basis, I believe it's something to do with the vnt vanes sticking, causing an overboost, which then puts it into limp mode....
