    hey guys
ok this may seem like an odd one, a mate of mine has seen a plate on a car that he wants as it pretty much matches his surname, now apparently the car its on is a right old banger and he wants to buy the car so he can transfer the plate to his much nicer motor
is there any way of tracking down where the car is registered so he can send a latter to the owner offering to buy the car?
any help be much appreciated guys

The reason why it isn't legal. Why buy a nice car when you can see one, find out where it lives and steal it?

I think if you have a valid reason, you can contact the dvla and for a small fee they will give you the details of the registered owner.

A valid reason like the owner owes you money for parking on your driveway etc or for a ''hit and run'' on your vehicle.

Just make something up and contact them!

That's it. Lie to government departments to gain access to legally restricted information. Always a good option.
