on the stock shocks the lower bush was elongated, on the replacement jom coilovers it was not.
no additional bushes were supplied nor indeed available with them.
i cut the extra off the original bushes and fitted them anyway.

it is now apparent that there is some play due to these bushes not sitting perfectly.
i estimate i need a 28mm wide bush to fill the gap so that there is little or no movement.

can anyone suggest any alternative solutions other than packing the hole like i have?

pic to explain things a little clearer

All i can suggest is buy dampers that actually fit properly.

You could have a spacer machined so it fits round the outside of the tube, making the interface more stable, but i wouldnt think its worth it for a cheap set of dampers.

these are coilovers so the damping replacement isn't an option.
one other option i was considering was a metal sleeve which butts up to the metal insert of the bush

I got a pair of rear shocks and with the shocks came the Metal sleeve/spacer to fit the shocks as the shocks were a standard bushe maybe worth a try and see if you can get them separately it wasn't listed separately but maybe they can get hold of them if not I would just cut of the sleeve/spacer and use with your coilovers would save trying to get hold of some. Hope this helps.

i've already cut the bush off the old ones but it gives a funny shimmy to the rear end
i know i'm a pain but would you be able to take an accurate measurement of the metal sleeve you have ?
i think i've measured it up as 28mm but i want to be sure.

TBH the bracket looks to be flush with the bush you cut from the old shocks.

I cannot see a replacement bush fixing it. It's more likely that the rear axle bushes are shot to bits due to the lowness of the car.

Assuming you did the bolt up tight, the outer bracket part will have pulled in a nadge to take up the slack that may have been introduced during the surgery to remove them from the old car thus clampiny the whole assy together

Yeh i agree. If the bolts tight it cant move, and so its unlikely to be the problem.

Fit new rear axle bushes, and make sure they're tightened with the car level.

I had the rear end twitch on mine until last week, 11 year old bushes were soft as sh*t, problem solved mate, and new springs were done at the same time cos I broke one.

Bushes from Unipart, £12+ vat each
