Late 2009 S3 iPod connector help

So in the glovebox I have a little box thing with an iPod iPhone connector, now I can plug my iphone4 straight in but find it cuts out when I go round corners as I'm guessing the gap is perfect for a larger style iPod, any ideas do I still need a cable even though it's the right adapter in the glovebox?

There are different sized inserts that adapt the slot to fit the various iPod models. I haven't tried to fit an iPhone/Touch into mine, but I'm guessing that one of the inserts would fit it more snugly. If you didn't get a set of inserts with your car, I believe you can buy them separately- I'm pretty sure the bag mine came in had its own part no. I'll see if I can dig it up.
