Hey all, im going to birmingham on saturday to view and test drive a a3 t sport. Its listed on auto trader. Vehicle is at mansel motors. Anyone had any dealings here? Seems and sounds all good so far.been told it has 97000miles on clock. Average i guess. Been told it has service history. Its been remapped (revo). My to do list in head is to pop bonnet check for any odd mods, check oil, check tyres for odd wear. Check springs, check for corrosion, check history and paperwork. Anything else peeps? It's not alot by todays standards but £2k is alot money for me at the mo. got my heart set on it but trying not to get carried away and overlooking silly things. Appreciate any and all suggestions. Ta.

Take it for a test drive, put it in 3rd and boot it too red line.that way you'll get max boost/load on thè engine any problems like headgasket , turbo, boost leaks, limp mode will show up quickly. Don't drive it like a granny as it'll show nothing. What reg is it on?

I know where Mansell Motors is, not too far from there myself, they are ok, my uncle got a car from there and has had no probs with it, they normally hold high mileage cars, as far as I can remember....

Just be careful where you take the car for a blast, as alot of the roads around there have got cameras on them......oh and lock your doors ;)

Oh just check that the cambelt has been done if you can...

Just seen the car, looks pretty good and a good price for what it is too.

Nice 1, cheers boys. With any luck i'll driving back with a t sport saturday afternoon. Then the real fun begins. 😁

Let us know how you get on.

If you have it or a friend who has it VCDS would be good to take a long.

Looks good nice colour that on the A3 sport and just run in at 97k but am I right in thinking its got TT pedals ?

They definitely don't look standard. But very nice. All these little things getting me more excited, I'm just expecting some dissapointment to kick in. Looking forward for some real boost. Had a real quiet period at work back in 2009, so out of the boredom and way too much spare time I ended up turbocharging my 98 mazda 323f. it was a frankenstein of a creation but I learnt alot by doing it all. All going well, getting it to run properly and then some bint went and smacked into the front of it. Yay. End of that story, but will be nice to have a real turbo-charged car. X fingers boys

If you know the REG you can do a check on the MOT history for free. you will find it on the gov vehicle reg site, and as already said do a HPI check also on-line.

Dencar i've tried that mot history check and I need the v5 reference number aswell. Typical. Thanks again

Ok sorry about that, i remember when i bought my car i had the same problem so i phoned the seller and he gave the V5 ref number.

Should i swear? Am i allowed to swear on hear? I sure hope so. Went down to see this t-sport. Oh my word.... Haha. I should have cried but instead i laughed. Where do i start...met the sales chap told the car is parked on main street not on forecourt. Fair enough,me thinking thats nice they got it out ready for me.....no. Jus one of the sales chaps is driving it at the mo. oh, ok. ****** filthy. I mean WRC filthy. Bumpers scratched to sh*t, wheels kurbed to hell. Then the door was opened for me, "have a seat sir see what you think".... What? Amongst all of your energy drinks bottles that are thrown all over the place. Crazy! The dash looked like it had been sprayed as all the edges on switches and dials looked rubbed down and faded. Then the smashed windscreen, not cracked. Smashed. Right from passenger side to drivers. He said to ME, you can get that done on your insurance! Haha. For a laugh i asked for to see the, as advertised service history. None. Not single piece paper for the car atall AND the mot ran out in october.....

On a plus note i have just taken a y-reg t-sport for a spin closer to home. I liked it. Bog standard all round. Bit of a shame, wheels arent that pleasing but in gud knick. Theres a stone chip to the bonnet about it really full local audi history. 117k on the clock. All in not a bad car and will give me £500 for my a4. This 1 just hasnt grabbed me. That me being greedy? I was hoping for the nice wheels, cd player....being tuned is just a bonus.

Sorry to read of your dissapointment on the Mansell motors car but you get what you pay for with dealers as I have found on many occasions. In fairness though it looked good in the pics.

Regarding the Y reg car standard with service history sounds really good. I personally have never bought a tuned car unless it was a well known forum car as you just dont know what you are buying. A chip is nothing because with respect you are never going to find a totally mint car with your budget and regarding the wheels/cd player you can always add them later.

Just my opinion.

Yeah i know what your saying. Its me being greedy. Dont suppose you know the cost of a remap?

Nah you are not being greedy you just want what you want I know because I am just the same but all im saying is the things mentioned can be resolved really easily. Essentially its still mechanically the same car as the mansell car but at least you are starting with a blank canvas to put your mark on.

A remap varies but reading up on posts on here a couple hundred quid should do it. Get the car all sorted mechanically first mate dont get obsessed by the remap which you can do at any time.

One last thought buddy can you hold on a bit and save a pound or two more which should give you more choice and maybe all of the spec you want.

That does look a goodun, pretty far that though. I think im just gonna have to be happy with what ive seen. Like you said make my mark on it. Preferably not a tree.

Good luck fella would be interested to learn how you go on.

Will do, i really like member slowcoaches a3. Right price and hes done all the graft bless him.

Yes really nice car and you have to respect the guy for doing all his own work. You should think seriously about that car as its known on the forum and a member would not stiff another member. This means you could make a trip down and bring it back sameday = result !

Hi Mate

Sorry the car didnt turn out as nice as expected, as said the pic looked really nice and so did the price...

Guess this is one you just put down to experience and hopefully something better will come up, if it hasnt already.

take two. I'm going to view another 1 on saturday. bit older 98/r-reg, but full history. checked 87000k miles, all suspension has been redone.Last full service july this year. Leather interior, cd changer. A few little extras, only fault I know of SO FAR is rear wiper motor has failed. Christ, if thats all it is I'm snapping it up. It's ****** blue! dark blue. I've had dark blue cars for the last 9 years! I always find dark blue cars.

Im now a very proud owner of a cracking a3 t sport. I'll get some photos up tomorrow. Its very shiney but i'm gonna have a deep read on the detailing section and educate myself on this clay-waxey-black-frosty-shiney-buffing.........stuff. If i have one gripe its the ride is little too harsh for my liking and judging by the wifes face shes thinking the same so see if i can sort that soon. Plus ive just discovered i have a revo specialist on the same industrial park as where i work......hmmmm

Glad you got it sorted sounds like a smart car and sometimes as ive found if on a budget its best to go for the nicest older model than the cheapest you can find of the newest model. I guess its been lowered from what you have said ?

It doesnt actually look lowered although parked next to my A4 anything looks lowered. There are s3 springs on the back and adjustable fronts that have been wound to match the rear....
