Well i picked my car up at the weekend From Jabba-Sport.

She went in to have the K03S, Pro Alloy FMIC kit and Stage 2 Custom Jabba Map.

Overall im VERY pleased with how it turned out, Power was 240 BHP With 246 ft lb's of Torque.

I Appreiciate that Jabba's rollers arn't always 100% Accurate though.

Its most noticable through the Rev-range it Just pulls right up to the Red-line!
Overall it cost me alot more than i had anticipated but still happy with the results,

Any-one else contimplating doing this to their A3 then do it its well worth it,

    Jason :D

Very good results there. Mine made 220bhp at jabba. Though I was running the standard exhaust and normal unleaded.

I see you live in surry so you had a nice long drive home to enjoy the mods :)

Some-one will be along to explain the propper use of a FMIC but im led to believe that you can run more boost with the added cooling they look cool too!

Next on my list is Definitly the Brembo GT kit or Might just go the 312mm Set-up not sure yet!

    Great!

I found the same, all told it cost a LOT more than it should. Like on those house building programs I went WAY over budget!

Did you use a 3bar or 4 bar FPR?

What other mods are on there?

Mine was turned down a bit by Storm after it was found to be running a high duty cycle to sustain the power, and I'm off to a RR day soon, so it'll be interesting to see what power mine is making.

I'd suggest good brakes, the 312mms on mine right now are OK, but dont expect to be able to do 10 laps on a track day without letting them cool, so although the 312s do the job, some big brakes would be better.

You are probably also finding that the power being put down means unless you are progressive you can break traction in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and coming out of corners. So a Quiafe or Peloquin would also be very sensible.

Have you got the graph, it'd be interesting to compare since I got a Custom Code map and you went Jabba it'd be good to see how they deliver the power across the range.

What other mods has the car got?

Oh the FMIC thing, basically it means you cant run any more power than without, but that boost will be sustained for longer.

The hotter the air that goes into your engine, the less power the engine can make, so by keeping the air cooler for longer it runs that maximum power for a lot longer. My FMIC I have yet to heatsoak when logging with VAG-COM, max I've ever seen is 40 something degrees. However, we didnt have any hot weather last year so maybe this year we will see.

Mine doesnt boost all that high, I know Prawns boosts higher than mine, but I was hitting about 18-19psi max.

Oh, and if you need to replace the clutch, go with a VR6 clutch kit and lightened G60/ABF flywheel.

    Dave,

Performance wise i have a 4 Bar FBR, Neuspeed TIP, Pro Alloy FMIC, 007P, BMC CDA, Miltek Sports cat, Miltek D/P, Miltek turbo back system with custom back box.

Other than that the Stage 2 Jabba Software think that's about it.

Traction is a big problem but once into 3rd it Pulls really nicely. Ive got a graph but only a printed version i'll take a pic and post it up but doubt it'll be very clear.

And Dave im coming down to JKM for that RR day so be good to compare Jabba to CC.

I work in psi but thats the same as me, 18-19psi.

Mine holds that in 3rd/4th up to the redline but then drops to 14-15psi (1 bar)

I think it works out at 237Bhp and 249ft.lb

If you're at the JKM RR day that'd great!!

Interesting how Jabba use the 4 bar FPR as I think is required, as Custom Code retain the 3 bar.

In suspect the CC power will be much lower.

Its going to be interesting at the JKM RR day,

I have the 4 Bar FBR but you and Prawn are Running 1.5 Bar of boost where-as im running only 1 bar.

I dont think they'll be alot in it really, As ive heard many times that Jabba's rollers aren't accurate so to get all our K03S'd A3's on one Roller will be very interesting!

Im not too fussed what the final figures are really im really happy with how it drives now, no Doubt i'll get bored of it soon and the hunt for more power will start again!

Thats why I said get a LSD.

It'll make the majority of that power usable.

As opposed to just wanting more power, make a higher percentage of that power be able to be used.

Plus putting in a lightened single mass flywheel is like night and day between that and the dual mass.

My power at the last RR was closer to 225Bhp though, and prawn runs 21psi of boost max, me 19 max.
I also took my Forge TIP off and I'm running the standard one again (due to the forge fitment being cack).

So there are slight differences between them all, I agree, it'll be very interesting to get them on the same rollers.

I know JKM have a reputation for being incredibly accurate, and they are Dyno Dynamics run in shootout mode, so they should be!

Apparently JKM havent seen any K03s with more than 221Bhp on their rollers, so it should be a good day out and actually I think on JKM's rollers, we will all be seeing 210-215Bhp approx.

Mostly I want to compare the power delivery though, see how they have been mapped, I dont care about the final figures, its 'how' that power is delivered I'm interested in.

Here's my old K03s graph to compare. Mods at the time, other than the turbo were, 2.5" miltek downpipe and cat and a samco TIP. Stock exhaust and intercooler running normal unleaded (i travelled loads of miles back then and it was cheaper).
My map used a 4bar FPR too. Max boost was 18psi. I added an N75H valve which upped the boost to about 22psi. Car felt alot faster but it was nothing but trouble so I binned it.

My flywheel started slipping the next day so I fitted the VR6/G60 lightened combo.

Just looking at mine and HTC's graph mine seems to have more power and more torque,

Mine was mapped on V-power with the Full Turbo back system and Neuspeed TIP though.

Im new to all this me being only 19, maybe some-one can compare our 2 graphs and explain what the difference's are?

HTC- Those figures are what I'd expect from a normal K03s map.

Do you mean it was unreliable with the 'H' valve or just as a whole?

J - As for the LSD, thats what is called a Limited slip diff.

They use a complicated system of gears i think based on the old torsen system whereby the diff can sense if one wheel is turning disproportionaly to the other and then transfers the power to the wheel with grip.

This means the wheel that has more grip gets even MORE power delivered to it.

This means instead of power being wasted wheelspining away or being sent to a wheel that isnt in constant contact with the road, the power gets used.

An open diff is like what you have, it just transfers power to the wheels.

A 1.0 LSD is a diff that does the power switching thing on acceleration only, and does not do it upon braking.

A 1.5 LSD does it on acceleration and 50% on braking.

A 2.0 LSD does it equally on acceleration and braking. They are mostly used for rear wheel drive drifing applications.

The Quiafe and Peloquin LSD units you can get for our cars are 1.5 LSDs. They are both around £650 although the peloquin comes with the shim kit and bolt kit included and a lifetime warranty. However, this can only be bought in the USA so attracts import charges, its about £700 all told.

You can get the Quaife here, but you also have to buy the bolt kit extra, total price inc VAT is £685 I think, plus you'd need fitting.

Apparently the Quiafe drives like an open diff until you push it whereas the peloquin engages a lot more often so you feel the car pulling a lot more.

Do some research and see which you think you'd like best.

Thanks Dave very knowledgable guy arn't you!

Ive Seen Rich A3 turbo on here who has Race-Logic traction control, whats the difference between that and the LSD? Or does Race-logic work with the LSD?

I could imagine my car being a right handfull being able to put all that power down. Ive already embarassed quite a few people already!

Its a never ending shopping list tough, LSD, Brembo's and Coilovers are all on my next to do list!

Dave, the H valve gave a nice feeling and running with super unleaded really made a difference to the power. However, the map wasn't designed to cope with the extra boost and it would under fuel, then the car would go into soft limp, backing off the boost and timing. Not really worth the hassle imo.

A3_Turbo, the differences in power are down to the exhaust and the fuel I was running. Yours holds the torque for longer which aids the power and results in a stronger feeling engine. See how my graph peak and tails off quickly.

The traction control senses a spinning wheel and cuts the fuel as a result to regain traction. Fitting both TC and LSD would be very nice. The diff would add more mechnical grip for the TC to play with.

I've heard that the LSD doesn't really make much difference in a straight line. I've heard they are most helpful for the inside wheel spinning when exiting a corner. Not really done a huge amount of reading on the subject. Something I may look into though.

When and where is this RR day ? and are there any spaces left? i could be interested in this.

Mines not running full boost very often atm( i think its the N75 -new on order) but when it does, its hit 1.6 bar max, not sure what this is in psi, guessing around 22- 23?

Don't worry about boost levels too much. You are making 240bhp, which Is bloody good for a k03s.

Boost gauge accuracy can vary anyway, as can boost levels due to ambient air pressures and temps. Only worry if you get overtly high spikes or surging issues.

    Thanks HTC,

I have a boost gauge fitted but not sure what i should be looking at most of the time!

If im giving it a thrash i'll just look at the gauge and just before the boost drops i'll change gear, how do i notice huge spikes is that when you get high boost levels for a short period of time?

Im guessing if you have a hose blown off which the standard ones are prone to doing so im told, then the gauge will show the boost being very low?

Am i right in what i just said?

    Im new to all this!

    Thanks!

Agreed, 240Bhp is great considering 250Bhp is the theoretical maximum safe limit. 254Bhp on mine was causing almost 100% duty cycle on the injectors and you could see the airflow go very erratic and drop after that.

So 240 is probably the best you are ever going to safely get out of it.

J - you will notice a boost spike as such, but it should hold it for a few seconds, that will be the biggest number you are lookign for. Most of us only 'hold' a much lower number. Its all to do with how the mapping works.

Indeed, you will see an initial high spike, then it will drop and hold, finally tailing off at very hight revs as the k03s runs out of puff. You will see less boost downhill, on cold days and at high altitudes.

You will get used to how your boost normally is for your car soon, then you can recognise faults. For example if you see much more or less boost that you would normally get, then this would be an issue. If you see the needle of the gauge waving back and forth excessively, then this is surging. Again you would look into that if it occurred.

So the gauge is a good early indication of a problem.

Trust me, I don't think you need to worry with your car. The map looks very good indicating a well running motor. Go out and enjoy it.
