Hi guys just lookin for a bit of advice really... ive got an imola s3 1999 and the bumpers were a slightly different color and had so many stonechips on so thought i would give them a fresh respray! anyway i got the car back today and well the bumpers are more orange now and well to say the least its quite noticably a different colour! the sprayer used the paint code from the sticker inside the door and he said its due to the yellow fading over the 10 years or so! he said blowing into wings and bonnet would jus create a color change line somewhere else. Has anyone else with the imola paintwork had this problem? cheers for your time

Take it back to him to get it sorted. If he's decent at his job he'll be able to blend the paint so the colour change will be transitional and not as it's like at the moment. It's a problem with all paintwork but more so lighter colours.

Anyone can spray something when they know the colour code but the place should be able to get a good match no matter what.

but to be fair the rest of the paint is ten years old??? i had a prang in my car and jus bit the bullett and had the whole car painted so it was all the same as i didnt want a really fresh panel and ten year old paint on the rest? i ended up spending 3500 after some bodywork mods but damn it was worth it????

if the guy is any good he would have looked at the variants of the colour,i just sprayed my akoya silver a4 today,on the main screen there was no1 shade and darker...however...in the darker there was 6 shades!! this is very common with 90% of colours on all makes! if he didnt have the colour ships then he could have got you to take the car to get chipped!! yes he can blend the wings etc and he (if any good) will loose the colour unless its a mile out! older cars are solid colour and newer are clear over base! reds are one of the worst as the chalk comes out of the pigment and turns them pink!! i would take it back and get it redone...oh yeh the guy is right saying its hard to tint water base as its a totaly different colour until it dries and its not the same to tink like solvent base!!

Any decent painter should take into account the age and condition of current paint and match accordingly.

Take it back and get him to sort it.

It still isn't an excuse, the body shop who repaired my roof rail and door has blended it in fine. Not everyone also has spare cash for a complete re-spray either as much as we'd all love one!
