Just bought an s3. Drive home was amazing. Handles great, amazing power, amazing car. However 2 days later engine light comes on, now I've got no power, engine misfires and temp gauge varies between 60 and 90. Now I'm gutted. Is this major problems or not?

from my knowledge and problems i would say get it on vagcom but i know that you must have a faulty temp sensor and the mis fires could be your coil pack which aint too much to replace i think £27 each i had same problem and coilpacks cured it does it sound like a subaru and the smell of a nasty cat converter?

Sounds like its your coilpacks, standard and common problem on them, noticed it has been particularly highlighted over the past few winter months....

See if you can get it on VAGCOM, if not, get the RAC out they can put it on their comp and will tell you if its a misfire on a particular cylinder.

The coilpacks are about £30 each all in, its usually best to do all of them at the same time for piece of mind, oh and also make sure you ONLY buy the genuine ones from Audi, as the copies are not meant to be much good and you will only save a couple of quid getting those ones....

Hope that help, good luck with the car and finally, get some pics up :)

where you from? someone local might have vagcom and help you out

Hi there Nath-W.

Check this thread for members in and around your area who have VAGCOM and could possibly save you time and money by doing a diagnostic on your car.

Sorry to hear the problems you are having, i'm sure that they are superficial and will be fixed by the above parts!

should be something and nothing, Coil packs are easy to change and it may be as well changing the spark plugs at the same time. Always nice to start with a new car with new sevice bits fitted then you know where you are

thanks for the advice. this is an awesome forum. had it checked and coil pack on cylinder 3 had gone. hopefully all will be well when i get this changed. just wondering if everyone knows what sort of price i will be looking for a full service, including a new cambelt, water pump, and thermostat.

DO NOT buy the cheaper coilpacks from GSF (if you are going there..as they blow)

nath..... go to a specialist for the cambelt etc, someone on here should be able to recommend one in your area..... approx £300-£400 id guess.... parts are reletively cheap its the fitting thats an ****

agree with jas about the coils, dealer are approx £2 more expensive but you get the moswt updated genuine items...not worth skimping

Hi mate i had this after about 4 days after having my car, crapped my pants lol did not know what is was,

My mate said it was my coil pack, so i called out my Breakdown RAC, and they came out and replaced it, as it was a Saturday afternoon, cos met about £30 i think so if you have breakdown service its worth ringing them,

Oh i can recommend "4Rings" Audi specialist they done my Majour Service can not fault them very helpful, and mobile came to mine and done it on my drive they are based in Kent i think,

although £30 is expensive and you cant be certain of getting the most upto date pack.... plus you'll waste one of your 'lives' with the breakdown firm

good option though if its an emergency and if you have homestart

Good point! It was good for me as i needed my car evening no where open, mate certain it was coil pack, so i tried them result i think its geuine parts they use too iirc

ok. the garage have already got the coil and are fitting it tomorrow so not sure where they got it from. il ask them tomorrow. wish i knew about these coils before i took it to the garage as i could have fitted it myself. lol. i live in North Cornwall, so does anyone know of any good garages around this area where i could take it to get serviced?

Nath try not to drive the car too far with the coil pack gone as you will cause damage to the cat on the car, which can be quite an expensive repair...not to put the frighteners on, but if its no more than 5 -10 miles away get there, but DONT boot it, or if you can get your mechanic to come to you and sort it, its literally a 5 minute job.

RK Engineering at St Agnes if it's not too far. One of the guys who owns it has an S3 and knows all you need to know! CC remaps done there also! Take mine there and trust them completely! Good luck with the car and enjoy!!!!!!:s3addict:
