I have been looking at getting a stage 1 remap on my 2012 S3 for the last few months and after far too much toing and froing I've finally made an appt at R Tech. It's a 2 hour drive away but they have a very good reputation with the 2.0 Tfsi so i'm hoping its worth it, only down side is I've got to wait 2 weeks. My S3 is mechanically standard so it'll be interesting to see the before and after dyno runs.I picked Diva(my name for her as she has expensive tastes) up brand new a year ago today so a little £290 treat for both of us after 11K faultless miles :)I'll let you know how it all goes!

Why dont you go with AMD Tuning? Havent really heard too many good things about R-Tech... if that's the one you mean in St Albans?

I can vouch for R-tech in Leicester there are by far the best tuner I have been to . Been going there for the past 7 years and every map I had on my 1.8t golf was flawless and they one on my 2009 S3 is the same . Nick and Ben have lots of time for you and don't just map your car and shove you on your way. I travel over 3 hours to get there and would not go any where else.

Best thing to do with an S3 is remap it....unleashes exactly what it should of been when it left the factory. Stage 1 is safe so you dont have to change clutch, exhaust, HPFP or intake. All you need to do is enjoy!!!

R Tech has a great reputation. I follow them on Facebook and the results, tech and knowledge is pretty inspiring to be honest, and even though they're competitors, Nicki and Bill from Badger 5 are always bouncing ideas off each other, which is even cooler.

btw, I'm not a customer of either, just from what I've seen and heard from ASN/FB

Thanks for some more positive reviews, makes me even more impatient :) Yes the £290 includes a pre and post dyno run which is impressive as a lot of firms charge similar or more just to flash a generic map with no final evidence of increase or delivery. Just so there's no confusion with which R Tech im using it's Nick and Ben over in Hinkley, Leics!

I fancy one of these. Money seems right with dyno tests included.
Keep us informed how the map works out...

I have just had mine mapped there on saturday, and very very happy with the result!! They certainly know their VAG stuff, this is the second time i have been there, once with my golf. You are left with a before and after printout from the rolling road. mine made 315 BHP and cant remember the torque figure but it increased by 75 lb/ft! travelled 130 miles to get there but well worth it, their maps are generic to a point and they then fine tune it and get the best they can out of your engine without damaging it, the do a few runs with different setups and mould it into what they are happy with, 2 hours later they take you out in it and show you what an animal your car has become.!!

The reason why i chose them is that they do a health check of your vehicle to, record any fault codes and make sure it is running in a healthy manner before they do anything so to avoid any engine damage,
bottom line not just a generic map but more of a personal service!! for a good price.

That in my opinion is what it's all about. It progresses the field. We can now see 1.8ts on small frame turbos doing mid frame turbo power whilst still being OEM fitting due to these guys

same here they really check your engine if its up for remapping. If not they will be honest with you which means they don't hide away things just so they can have your money

Ye I follow them on FB too, its cool to see the kind of things they do and also nice to know that they dont just map and take your money. I've seen them post on there that they turned people away because the car wasn't sound and they didn't want to risk damaging anything.

£290 is an absolute bargain! I paid 100 quid more for my revo map and that didnt include any rolling road whatsoever! Then another 60 quid to go to stage 2+! Although to be fair the dealer that put the stage 2+ map on did take it out afterwards and vcds log it. But I still have no idea how much power the car is actually putting out which is a shame.

I've been running this stage 1 remap for the past 18 months and it's performed faultlessly! After talking to Nik I decided to have their linear map rather than a more aggressive delivery as I'd heard various clutch horror stories. It suits my driving style perfectly as I can potter around with family onboard or if I fancy a blast I bury my foot and after 3500rpm it just takes off with constant pull up to the redline.
If your considering a remap then I can't recommend RTechs service enough as £290 for the performance increase and service is a bargain!

Just came back from having my stage 1 done with R-Tech and bloody hell...what a difference! Car feels so much more alive now and scares the **** out of me propper! Plus the diverter valve makes a lovely noise when changing gear at high revs and makes me smile every time. Niki knows what the heck he is doing.

Had my S3 mapped by RTech, both the DSG and ECU. Superb results, best map I have had on my S3 by far. The torque increase from my previous 2+ map was insane, ~80lb/ft.

Had the map a few months now and no issues whatsoever.

Reading all your comments makes R-Tech sound a pretty good place to go.

Would you say the maps are on par with the likes of Revo & APR etc?

It depends how they do their maps really. My car was dynod at least 4 times to get the tuning just right. I think with those companies you're paying for the name really, but thats just me.

hmmmm as im interested in this as my last S3 was APR and i have sworn by them ever since but im paying £600 for APR with out any Dyno ect, and if the R-Tech maps are just as good, along with Dyno ect then thats hell of a bargain for the money.

Everything I have read about R-Tech is positive. Either on here or the VW forums. But I think I will wait till the end of my current insurance before visiting them, as my current lot are not mod friendly. Makes the wait more difficult as the insurance runs out at the end of October!

I had Rtech when they weren't to well known on my golf gti turbo and my s3 8l an both where excellent maps and great help from the guys, I'll certainly be taking my S3 down when the DP and de cat is fitted.

    This is true.

Often smaller companies can offer options or bespoke maps that the bigger companies cannot.

The big ones offer good, very widely used products, but have very limited flexibitlity, and will offer a product, but not with any degree of tailoring for an individual.

I hear you mate, so our saying the APR & Revo are just maps they have produced which every at gets the same, but the R-Tech map is tailored to how your car performes etc so they get the most out of your engine safely??

I think the safety aspect is down to the quality of the mapping, and how far the hardware is pushed, but that isn't always down to the volume of product shipped.

In my case,I've been happy with a relatively mass produced(Revo) map,but once the limits of the product are reached, the bigger manufacturers have no interest or scope to support you further.

I had asked for support to move the product onto bigger things, but the answer was a flat no.
In fairness, none of the other volume producers were interested either.

Yes they are just interested like you said in the mass produced Map to sell to everyone where as people like your self taking it to the next level they don't want to know. Bad really but that's big companies for you I take it.
So you are going custom map then, and who are you going with?

It's kind of off topic, but I've had to go for a whole new type of ECU,which can be programmed for boost control,WMI,ALS,and a lot of other stuff.
