Well I went against the grain a few months ago and took gamble after driving a mates golf on the same coilovers. Never was a fan of the cheap coilovers when I first had some on my old mk3 golf a few years back. But the ever increasing good reviews made me have another shot

So I got the coilovers, they cost me £200, first impresions was the zinc finish looked **** and the build quilty was visualy poor looking. Any way they seemed to be well put together despite the poor look and and the dampers and piston rods etc all seem very stong. The only thing i was put off was the metal the rear adjusters and the perchs seemed to be very soft metal.
So i went ahead and fitted them, first impressions they were fairly stiff but not neck breaking stiff, handling was also improved and and they was not crashy so i was impressed.
After a few weeks of running in they got alot softer and almost stock like ride, i was a little disapointed. Anyhow they were set pretty high and etc, but i left them for while longer, eventually the height settled down once it did they began to feel alot better.

So yesterday I decided they was ran enough for me set my stance and rid of the wheel gap. Once the car was up on stands and the wheels were off the coilovers looked to still be pretty good condition. They have done approx 2000 miles, about 500 of that was motorway the rest is spent pot hole ridden b roads. No sign of rust yet and the perchs hadnt even remotely seized and they have not even been greased, and no leaks etc.
They was lowered alot more, once back on and settled I was happy the stiffness of ride increased massivly, but they still managed handle the poor roads without being a horrid ride, and imo the ride is far better than stock and the lower they go the better the rides seems to be:wacko:. Handling again seems to be far better the front end seems have a little less understeer, and body roll has been greatly reduced too and also feedback from the road seems alot better. My only complaint is the rear has too much - camber and seems to get a little skitish and also visualy it looks like the rear wheels are toeing in a bit.
So i went to see friend to get second opinion and he was amazed by the feel and commeted on how nice the ride was from a £200 set of coilovers. Also we compared to friends 05 leom TDI on eibachs, they felt much better no where near as crashy and alot less harsh but somehow alot stiffer.

So overall I am mega impressed, and the setup on the dampers is almost perfectly set to how i would want it. The ride is better and the handling is so much better and makes the drive million miles more fun.

So there is my opinion, £200 well spent on coilovers that suit me to a T without breaking the bank. They come with a 2 year warrenty and TUV certficate, i would happily recomend these to anyone who is looking for a entry level set of coilovers. I will also keep my thread updated if I have any issues etc and will also get the car up and inspect in another few thousand miles to see how they are coping. So there are definatly now no excuses for huge amounts of wheel gap.

    Pictures to follow shortly.

There realy impressive, i wasn't expecting much tbh but there just full of win. So far there a rare bargain and I don't see any reason they won't hold up ether. I think the ride may be down to the springs to as there not linear springs on the front like slot of the cheaper ones I've seen.

Just to throw another opinion into the mix

    Quote

They were not horrible at a normal height, but still too harsh for street driving according to my woman. Then I dumped them and they were not good. on a noraml road they were fine, but on a seperated concrete or a road with minor bumps they were VERY unforgiving. a couple times i thought my front Damper was going to go flying out of the top of my shock tower....

lesson learned, were solid for a year, but i would not buy them again if you want anything but LOW. (BTW, they did go low as F*** though)

    End quote

    Taken from here. http://www.vwforum.com/forums/f11/jom-coilovers-bargain-bust-35563/

I cannot comment myself, as I have not tried them, but I am always dubious as things are cheap for a reason!

Will be interested to see how you get with these mate. Fair play for giving them a go :)

    Stance looks spot on mate.

Glad to hear you're happy with these coilovers, read a number of bad reviews about them.

It's all down to opinion at the end if the day realy. I realy like them, and there pretty much exactly how I want them. My street is concrete squares and the roads are realy poor round mine and they take the bumps rather nice. Only bad point in ride is the stretch of m62 from Warrington an Manchester is just a series of bumps and at speed it does feel harsh. But if anything I could change I would have the rear stiffer. Any softer on the front and I'd have no arches left.

Just fitted JOM coilovers to my Golf GTI. I too am impressed with the ride, although they have only been on a week and I have not tweaked them yet. Have set them at half way which is only just slightly lower than standard but ride quality is firm and steering feels quite tight. So far well impressed but only time will tell.

Bought from DPM performance who are a sponsor on this site for £165

Did you had the S-line suspension as your stockies? Or if you don't and incase if you had any experiences in one, how do the JOM compared to the S-lines? Can't beat the price of the JOMs aswell.

I had sports suspension on mine. The JOMs don't feel crashey and the car doesnt wallow around if get me. What impressed me is they manage to just sail over most uneven road surfaces and be comfortable without crashing into dips etc. I can't realy find a way to describe what I meen. for example from past coilovers like the spax on my mini, when set stiff when on twisty poor surface roads its like the wheels dont move in to dips in the roads and follow the road and just skip over the top resulting in skitish handling.

They do make for better handling, they give me a more go kart feel handling when spirited driving, it's a far more fun drive now. Feedback is also good, I always hated the numbness of the A3, what i thought was there is just no feedback and no feel to what sort road surface you drove on. With these there is definatly more feel, and you can feel as soon as you lose grip. To top it off the steering feels a tad bit more heavy and and braking is far better, I always felt the rear was a bit to unstable on fast roads when braking hard but the front end doesn't dive anymore.

I got them from and ebay seller, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Audi-A3-1-9-2...83108014?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM jom also do a more expensive set to, i know Venommotorsport sell both kits too.

Never had experiance with weitecs, would be nice to go for a run in a car with them to see how they compare. Not sure how low, but I can't get over the little square speed bumps no more . Theres still about an 1.5 CM of thread left to go yet , I'll get some more pictures soon they seemed to have settled a little more since I re adjusted them the other day.

Sadly the car has gone, sold it :( the coilovers were still going strong and had no issues. After a couple of thousand miles they softend up and felt pretty good and felt alot better handling wise than stock.

Nothing at the moment, waiting untill march to save some money. Then Hopefully another A3 but a 3.2 instead of an oil burner, but i am realy tempted at an R32 golf but i realy dont think i'll be able to afford one.

It was tidy, I miss it now so much, didn't realise I liked it so much. But needs must, come out of work so it had to go. Was suprised at what it went for though, I cut a deal with the finance they was giving me 8k for it then i basicly pay the rest off. I paid £10,500 for it, and they sent me a letter last week saying it sold for more so they are knocking £2600 of what i owe as it sold at auction for £10,600, as it was in that picture. Wish I had just sold it now, id of been better off but I didn't think id get that much for it.
