johnmv55 - I take it all back - you're dead right - they've changed the design of the door seals on the new 3 door - have you got new design on your car? If so any rattles???

My newly arrived Sportback has NO rattles at all - and with no suspension either if anything was going to rattle it truly would!

I suppose 'hard' means different thing to different people MB,but there's no denying it's bloody hard compared with most cars.
    Alright,if you've driven hyper-lowered Max-Power rejects,then it won't seem that bad,but for a mass produced car it's bloody hard.
Even Top Gear go on about the fact that Audi don't seem to be able to make sports suspension without going rock-hard (their TT soft-top test v Chrysler v something else).

The S-line suspension, combined with the 40 profile tyres, does ask more of the build quality than softer suspension and squishy-sidewall tyres.

I was eyeing up some 16" A3 wheels on Ebay at the weekend....probably still handle nearly as well too....

    I couldn't go back to 16's,no way.
    They just look daft,IMO.
    17's minimum,but not the standard A3 sport design,which I think looks awful.

    18's needn't mean a harsh ride though.
I was in one of those ST Mondeo's the other week.
It had 18's and a comfy ride.
Mondeos may get slagged for this and that, but their handling is usually given top marks.

I wouldn't have one (they scream 'company car') but it was alright.

    That'll be my R32 then!

If you think the s-line ride is hard try a mini cooper S... The suspension on that was so stiff that on a b road blast it used to shake bits of trim free!

Maybe the extra weight of the quattro helps preload the springs ?
I think the quattro adds something like 150kgs to the weight, doesn't it ?
That's like having two lightly built people in the car, which does make the ride in my car better.
When a car's ride is improved with load, that's a sure sign that the springs are too hard.

Very true Bowfer, unless you have a Quattro in which case its no longer an issue. Or you could get lighter wheels for the same effect...

Bowfer, try a BMW 3 Series sport on 18's (Painful and i really don't know what people rave about, they must just believe the BS in magazines!)

or a Saab 9-5 on 18's , Impreza WRX was no softie either and that was on 17's

Ever ridden in a Civic Type R?

Civic Type R looked like a bread van and felt like the suspension had been made by Barney Rubble. The red seats and sprayed silver dash and interior door handles finished it off for me. Too much like an MG Metro with red carpet and belts I had in the early 90's, but without the class and 13" wheels! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh_roll.gif

Yeah it all sounds really groovy - but do the new design door seals rattle? - never mind about "I just got the car" - I "just got the car" once upon a time too - but about 2000 miles later the window started rattling...so what's the answer???

I had one of them!!! It used to list to starboard a bit though due to a leak in the hydrogas suspension.
