Jay A3 's 1.8T On-Going Build Thread

I hope your are man enough to take the crown Jay, you deserve it for all this work.

Fingers crossed for you.

^^^ I'm confused? that sounded almost sincere!

Meh, I've been the best for years. Probably about time I let somebody else have a taste of glory.

A genuine good luck from me, I think it will make 249.

I have my doubts of what it will make. But I'm sure many of us feel like that when d-day approaches?!

It's pretty nerve racking, especially when mentally you have built it up so much.

Don't worry though, Niki is a legend and all will go to plan. Your fuel pump and clutch ok?

I'm having a strip down and rods next month then going back at it...Why do we do it to ourselves?

Fitted a Oem clutch about 10k miles ago before I started modding. Fuel pump status? Not a scoobie... What can I do to check that?

Thanks mate!

everything is coming together now, can not wait till Friday to get more mods on hahaha

Jay has a secret weapon being fitted to his k03s which I think will make all the difference....

Right LNM happened and was a success! Thanks to Ben from parsons performance and Reesy came along to help!
Met up with Ben n Reesy who rolled up in the M3 'like a boss'

First thing to tackle was the exhaust. The downpipe I have is where it reduces from 3" to 2.25" then back up again into the 2.5" miltek.
This restrictive pipe had to go, so out comes the cutter and this is what was left

On goes the 2.5" stainless steel pipe. Got to say... Very impressed with Bens welding skills!

Next on the long list is to fit the actuator that I got from beach buggy to replace the Oem one. This is a 10psi so slightly stiffer.
Thanks dan!!
Off came the exhaust manifold

Fitted on, and back goes the exhaust manifold with new gaskets and 13 new nuts (although I was only given 10) luckily the nuts on the manifold are only 800 miles old.

While there Ben fitted the new sfs beefed up tip. It has a 70mm bore that has a 76mm end for the new maf.

It is a 3" maf housing from a vr6 obd2, so the filament from my agu maf was swapped over, fitted along with the s2000 air filter.
With the increase in airflow I got my hands on a set of yellow top calibra injectors to help with fuelling. These were fitted along with the recently powder coated inlet manifold.

Final task was to ditch the catch can and vent to atmos.

One bung and 1meter of 19mm (internal diameter) oil grade pipe later and I was catch can-less.

I recently brought a stainless steel spark plug cover
Sprayed it in hi temp satin black spray I had left over

I shall fit this in the next week or so! I believe it smartens the bay up a bit.

Sorry for the essay but it all seems like I am ready for the custom map at rtech this coming week!
Drove it back home last night (1hr) and the car felt smooth. Throttle sharper and it feels like there is power there to be u locked. So far so good!

Should get some cracking results jay :)

Not seen a large bore tip and a k03 yet? Would have thought that'll unlock some for you

Yeh sfs make These to order. Doesn't have to be 76mm /80mm inlet, they can also do a 70mm for those who want to be running standard maf's on the ko3s. we'll see what nicki can do! I hope numbers are good, but more than anything I hope It holds boost well

When Simon Colyer at Ecotech tested these he saw 3bhp and 2lbft above the outgoing SFS intake pipe and a revo stage 1 map.

I think those number are wrong J-rod.

3bhp and 2lbft is not a measurable gain at all, 3 back to back dyno runs on the same car within 5 minutes of each other would vary more than that.

I seem to recall the gains were greater than that, but don't remember numbers

Numbers elsewhere have shown 4bhp peak gains over a normal TIP.

The gains I have seen from googling weren't in peak, but there was more power at peak torque than a standard TIP.

As you say, the numbers aren't really measurable.

If its anything like other tips (b5) etc then opening up the bore of the intake letting it breath better has netted impressive gains as we all know

I can't imagine it'll be much different with the k03 and should hopefully get Jay some impressive results :)

Flow isn't anywhere near as much of an issue as a K04 though and that's where the K04 suffered, a K03s flows a small amount of air and when you account that the turbo can just provide more to force it through to a certain extent, whilst I wish Jay every ounce of luck don't hold out for some super mega 15bhp gain like a B5 TIP.

The K03s is flowing around 20% less air (on average) than what we are expecting and seeing from K04 cars, and there is only a few mm difference between the two TIP's.

That said as soon as I get paid I am buying one :) So I hope Jay can attribute some of his awesome result (because lets face it its going to be) to this TIP.

To be honest I really don't know what to expect from the tip and haven't thought about figures. I just wanted to try and get as much air flow as possible which I hope I have achieved.

Was a fun evening jay.

car was definitely a little bit better, and louder, with that section of exhaust replaced which was slightly unexpected.

Indeed it was a laugh! especially when i tackled the 3/4 poind burger where you ordered "all the salads" (burger has killed me)
I hope it does to! Let me know what your doing about tomorrow.
