Jardo's 'Journey to quattro' - My Story...

I should probably update about my issues actually.

Phil and I ran it up with a pressure tester the other day, and whilst the pressure never went above 1.3 bar it is losing a lot of water into the oil.

This is after a 15 min idle at running temp -

Luckily for me the South West is full of helpful/wonderful VAG owners and Russ (slowcoach) had a head for me in his garage. So we went and picked it up on Monday night and had a good old chin wag. I can't thank Russ enough, knowing that we can just throw a head on it and not have to worry about pressure testing and skimming is a huge weight off my shoulders.

The head has done very few miles since being totally reconditioned with all new parts :)

Can't wait to get it all sorted on Sunday and have him back :)

New water pump, cambelt and head :)

is it me or does #3 cyl look to have run hotter?

This time tomorrow I am going to be elbows deep in 1.8t goodness...

And tomorrow night I will be back on the road in the slayer :D

#optimistic

I am fairly certain we are back in business.

I can't thank Phil Mil enough, the guy is a mechanical legend.

Fingers crossed this is sorted now :)

The car is spot on, drives fine and sounds great :)

although I'm not a legend, as bad as it sounds I only done my job :)

Just got home and the car is smoother than ever with bags of torque and pulling well.

No oil usage, usage, no water loss and no mayo in the filler cap.

:D

Got to Phils ready to fit this -

It's obviously been running perfectly, everything's a great colour and there is no bore wear or markings.

This is totally as the old head came off after the gasket was removed -

A few det marks here maybe, but this is the cylinder which dropped two coil packs in a week...

But otherwise, it's all back together and spot on!

:beerchug:

It feels so good having the keys in my pocket again, driving it to work this morning has made my day :)

Glad to hear all is well dude :)

2 quick questions:

In the pic with the new head on there is no VVT on the new head. Did you swap this over after the pic?

Also, the inlet gasket is wrong in the pics even after you've fitted the head, did you put the right one on afterwards?

Hope all is still well :) good work

Prawn your eyes are far to good :)

its got the AGU mani gasket on in the pic this was swapped for the aum one, your correct about the vvt unit but alas my chain tool is currently on the bench in use on rons tensioner we took the plan of fitting the vvt unit at a later date due to not having the compressor to hand :)

I much prefer this answer to the one Jardo gave me, cheers Phil :)

jardo's answer was:

It runs fine, it doesn't do anything, so why bother

I assumed (correctly) that you would know better and have it under control :)

lol, another thing I wanna do is take the sai pump off as that has got no job at all now

Don't you do any work yourself Jardo? Or are you like Rob and his Evo and just clean it? haha

I have got Phil Miller; why would I risk ****ing it up when god has placed me in the path of potentially the most mechanically gifted genius yet to grace our fair land?

Although prob the nicest thing anyone has ever said about me, i am the first to say im far from the above statement, i enjoy what i do (most of the time) and totally enjoy fixing things, i wish everyone felt the same as Jardo does about my work

:)

It's a shame you're such a **** though.

Haha.

lol - Jardo's back....

some imposter must have been logged in as him... he was nice to people and everything... Clearly not the real deal Jardo we know and luv :p

I am back indeed. And to prove that I am back here is a video of my car on full man boost and my new method of driving -

I'm literally too scared to put my foot down below 4K; but after that it's quite an animal for a K03s.

I think EML's make cars go quicker?

-

I've got a weird fault which I will try and describe to people in the hope that I can resolve it.

The car seems to be needing a lot of throttle to make boost; it first started happening a week before the head was done and after the mapping so it is something which has broken or changed.

It is totally cack to drive on part throttle around town, it's not smooth at all and is very jerky. Then it hovers around 5PSI and the if you put your foot down a bit further it springs into life and totally flies. There is no throtle modulation.

I've swapped N75 and DV with Phil, no change. I've unplugged the MAF, no change. So I'm presuming I need to do a TB reset? Any other suggestions?

Today I will mostly be changing a manifold gasket, cleaning the TB, resetting the TB and then going to Phils to press in the polybush for the dogbone mount :)

Why do you need to press the bush in? I just pushed my power flex one in?

He means the front bush. The little round one that bolts through to the gearbox.

I love you guys, haha.

This morning I did the manifold gasket and cleaned the TB but I didn't have time to do a reset. Car seems to be a little better, but it's hard to be decisive because of the shagged dogbone mount.

Manly airflow logging yesterday -

At 7250rpm.

Is it accurate? Probably not anymore; it'd be nice if it was though haha!At least it is getting lots of airflow to play with though.

I took a video of my badass Miltek too, it never used to sound like this on Prawns car.

Awesome turnaround from last week. It looks damn good (in fact, what detailing methods/stuff do you use?) and it goes and sounds nuts. Definitely been an inspiration for me/my car.

Thanks a lot dude :)

Nope, ride height hasn't changed in 3 years. :)

looks lower to me as well!

Looking very smart mate. Mine sounded just like that on videos though.

I want manly airflow :(

I guess when rods are done I can go mad. GT28 or something.
