My belt split the other week and at the weekend I noticed the fan wasn't running (temp went above half way for the 1st time) So had a look and its got some belt wrapped in it. Tried pulling it out but no luck. The fan Is stiff but can be turned by hand. My mate says chances are the fans burnt out and I should order a new one??? Obviously it looks a big job to get to.

Running a scan I got this:

Question is: Do I need to be looking elsewhere first? Is the fan burnt out do you think? (50/50 I know, but don't want to strip it down to find it is and have no spare) does anything else need changing as well?

Vague I know, im not very mechanically minded so please bare with me :).

The belt also knocked out the 5 flaps behind the radiator but I've been told by a mechanic it should be fine without them. Plus they're the least of the problem at the moment

Thank you

Remove the belt stuck around it & test again, but its more than possible it is burnt out.

Right I'll order a new fan from TPS an hope I can return if its not needed. Then at least if its burnt out I have the new one ready. There's no way the belt is coming out while its fitted.

Yes but savings on the labour will certainly make the fans cost less heavy & lets be honest £180 isn't allot of money for a rad pack.

Wasn't a rant mate. Just bit depressed at the moment misses power steering rack has gone wrong as well. Bad couple of weeks.

I just asked Tps for new electric fan so assume it comes with all I need. Didn't bother with the flaps as they where £100+ as well. I always by genuine Audi so expect these things I suppose. Anyway the GSF fan was £105 and looked like it was just a fan with two bits of wire.

On another note Nigel when doing a full scan it gets so far and crashes telling me to check connection etc.. And won't continue?? Yet when coding etc its fine? I'm using a new genuine cable.
Dodgy laptop USB (laptops had so stick) or port on car?

Thanks

I didn't read it as a rant either lol.

I would test on another port or laptop 1st, do a port test under options, move the usb connection about when scanning see if this has any effect, check for updates.

That's alright then lol.

Yeah I'll try someone else's car at some point then. Was planning on just getting a netbook soon anyway. Find a 17" bit to big to sit in the car with.

Fan replaced and was working when I looked last night. However now no aircon. Switches to Econ
