Haha... bad enuff about my brother.... Sad I know. but tis only coz i care!

Well.... i got to sum1 at 3 and they said they'd call me str8 back. Had to call them again at 4.30 coz they hadnt called.
Woman said, its all sorted, can be collected at 5.

Phoned back at 5 coz i'd asked if sum1 could call and let me no what the problems were. After all, they were suppoed to call me b4 they comenced any work.

Instead they said oh no, were lookin at it at the mo. Its thowing up sum funny numbers. Sumthing is wrong with the accelerator pedal.

Now i mite not be a mechanic sorry 'Technician' But i no that my pedal moves, and pulls a cable which opperates the throttle! How does that stop my car running???? HMM ODD!!

Said they'd need me to call tomo.

By this time id had enuff. Finally got thru to sum1 who possibly knew what he was on about.
The gearbox had a missing bolt and it was causing the clunking.
The Hall sensor is throwing out a permanent error. The sender is ok, but they cant fix the ECU fault code!

They now say they need it till monday nite.
F@*King USELESS! This has to be THE worst service iv recieved in my life! So.. going into complain tomo.

Even better is the fact that the snotty bloke on reception told me at 8.30 this morn, that his technicians could deffo find it and fix it, So much for that!

Sorry about the long post! But its drivin me mad!

Your car is not a DBW is it as if so then the acc pedal may be broken... As there is no cable involved? What year is your car?

Nah its '95 and well b4 DBW
    They're just useless and stoooopid!
They said the car was ready and that i could collect it at five.
The next person said it has only just started to be looked at!

It might need a new ECU tho... any1 no where i can find one? How much etc...? Can i get one pre-chipped?

Just popped in to see how they were goin and they dont have a clue.

They can only tell me that there is a serious problem in there sumwhere!
They dont no how long it will take to fix or what it is!

There is a problem with the hall sender, coolant sensor and the ECU

The man on the service desk was even kind enuff to explain that an ecu was like a computer that sent out signals to all the things in the car!

And i thought it was the extrodinary cool undooer! Duuuuuh

See my other thread Charilie re. Blown ECU...... Audi have quoted £1,230 (ish) for a new ECU (fitted inc VAT) !!!!!! Suspect U can get it cheaper as this is a dealer price.

As for a pre-chipped one - Maybe off E-bay or contact a Engine Mgmt specialist (Jabba AMD etc.) ?

Ok, good start to the day! (NOT!)
Car company wanted 14 for being 21, then £50 pre pay for fuel, then £500 for the ins, upfront!

Got a 1.4 clio tho, bit better than a Ka i spose! And i was only spost to have up to a 1.2, but they had nothin smaller!

Now for the good stuff, the car has been diagnosed, The Timing chain (Sure they mean belt!) tensioner has bust! (Took them over 6 hours to diagnose this! And then they said that they had spent more on it and were doin a 'deal') Thats why they couldnt delete the hall sender fault (Theres a tech article on this in the Tech forum!)

So, they are changing the tensioner, and the head gasket!

They want 6hours Diagnostic, then labour and parts for the other bits (About 5hours!)

    So were talkin biiiiiig money!!

Some how, dads got them down to 2hours Diag.

This means im looking at wait for it..... ...

    £670!!!

As yet, we dont think they are changin the belt aswell as the tensioner.

    Am I bein ripped off?

The joys of owning and audi! Spent £300 the other week! Only had the car 3 weeksish!!!

And the clio i have now decided was amazing, only car iv driven that you dont have to use the clutch, you can just change gear, amazing! Who needs all this tiptronic stuff hehe!

    Charlie,

They defo mean Timing Chain... it connects both Cams together so there is no need to 'set up' the timing for both cams, one is set from the other. And if the tensioner is bust I'm surprised your car still runs at all. You're very lucky not to have wrecked the engine since you drove it so much after you first heard the noise.

And why are they changing the head gasket? Is there damage in the head that needs repairing? There's no need to remove the head to change the tensioner or chain as far as I know... maybe I'm wrong (and I'm sure someone else on here will slap me into line if I am!) but I don't think so! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And 6 hours to diagnose it!? Hmmm... sounds like someone is embellishing things a little there... They could strip the whole engine in 6 hours. I'd get the old man to have words /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hope you get it sorted soon mate.

I've had a head gasket fail on another car resulting in loss of power and clatter-clatter.

I'm surprised no one did a compression test early on but perhaps with today's sophisticated cars the basics of auto engineering are overlooked.

I should make sure the belt is replaced along with the tensioner, even if it's not due yet.

    Cool, understand now!
6hours takes the mic, but all they did was plug it in a try and delete the fault! When that didnt work they sat and looked at it long and hard thinkin why wont it work. And lookin was all they did!
Whats wrong with a spanner these days?

From what i can tell they took the head off b4 they new what it was, and therefore want to fit a new gasket.

Car did 8miles and a mile across town and back. So didnt really travel that far. But i guess with the cams out of sync it doesnt take long!

Old mans had words, and got it down to 2hours to diagnose, but i still think its laughable that AUDI technicians can take this long!

The only tensioner in the country is 3days away.

All it takes is for 1 valve to impact the piston and its bye bye engine (generally)

If they took the head off without even looking into it further first there is NO WAY I would entertain paying for their labour or parts to rectify what was a mistaken solution on their part. That is ******!

There are tons of things they could have investigated before taking the head off... tons!

    What incompetence! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif

Have a word mate, that sort of behaviour is not on...

There poo.... we've got the labour down. But i still think a letter is needed.

I no it only take one valve and piston to meet, but we didnt think it was that serious a noise! Oooops hehe

They relied on the computer toooo much!

They could have diagnosed the chain in about 20 minutes by taking the rocker cover (cam cover) off. Hopefully while they had the head off, they checked the valves and pistons for damage... If not, watch out!

Wikid, the story gets better, dad went and got the bill today.

They aint done the cam belt, or the service requested! Which means more time without the car for me, and im guessin more money!

Readin thru what it was, they say a tooth was missing off the inlet cam. So they've changed the chain and tensioner.
    What about the missing tooth.......??

Thats all they've done. Oh, they did the oil and filter!

    WAIT FOR IT.........

    £800!!!!!!!!!

    Charlie...

It's about to time to consult a solicitor methinks. What complete f*ckin' arseholes...

That sort of ineptitude and lack of expertise is what leads to people forking out through the nose for repairs, or lack of them! How the hell did these guys get a job!? Audi-trained? Sod that!

I would not part with a penny until it's sorted mate. They haven't done a thing to justify that sort of bill. And what they have done is completely offset by their failure to carry out the work it went in for to start with.

I hope you sort it out, for sanity's sake!

Suposedly iv gone from 1 cam belt to 3 and sum V belts or sumit! (More technical approach l8r once i go thru it wid dad.)

that £650 for cambelt parts and an 80k service.

So let me get this straight... that's ANOTHER £650 on top of the first £800??

I'm gonna have to stop reading this thread cos it's driving me insane!

These guys sound like a complete outfit of apprentices!

Have you challenged them on their reasons for missing all the main points to start with? Have you asked why they don't even know the layout of one of their own engines?

Have you asked them why they are treating your car as a damn test-bed for their incompetence!? The majority of the cost they have passed on to you is down to mistakes and blunders which are all of their own doing... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/burningmad.gif
