So managed a hole 5 days of driving pleasure and now it's gone Pete Tongue!

Driving about last night and thought I saw something but thought "Neh can't be right"

Then it did it again, and my heart sank!

My clutch on my newly bought S3 is slipping :(

Add to that a lot of vibration through the clutch peddle and the whole car if I'm honest and you get me feeling totally gutted!

Finished work today and went straight to Audi and explained what happened an I am waiting for a phone call tomorrow morning

    I want to cry!

to be honest mate the clutches in these are made of cheese and its better it went now rather then later. at 5 days audi will deal with it at their cost. as your mapping it, youve got a couple options, let them replace everything and run it till the clutch goes, and then upgrade to a full sachs set up (1100-1200 fitted) may get 10-15k miles out of it depend the way you drive, get audi to replace everything and then take it straight to a specialist and get them to throw away the frankly rubbish LUK clutch and fit a sachs one (800ish fitted as you wont need a new fly wheel), or wait to see what audi say and ask if they replace the DMF, pay for labour and you supply a sachs clutch (450)

again sorry to hear this, especially so soon after getting the car, but its a case of when, not if the clutch goes on these. try not to let it get you too down but this is why its worth paying the dealer premium on cars like these

Audi will 100% have to put you a new one in. If you bought it 5 days ago I would kick up a stink as that should have been noticed by them and replaced , Make sure they do it quickly and loan you a courtesy car, if not threaten them with trading standards

I was calm when I went in today and expressed my disappointment very professionally lol

To be fair I checked the clutch on the test drive and it felt fine so it's just one of those things. I have told the dealer I will only accept a new clutch as I need to have every confidence in the car as I'm going to Scotland in 2 weeks.

They were very understanding about it.

One thing though, what could be causing the car to vibrate when your moving, it's fine when stationary but when your moving you can feel a kind of wheel balance type wobble but it's not the wheels if that makes sence?

    Nakered DMF maybe?

going in and being professional is the best way to deal with it. now just have to hope they play ball, but id be very surprised if they dont, so i wouldnt worry about it too much

when mine went and i was driving with a slipping clutch for a few months, and i didnt have any shaking, so maybe your DMF has let do in someway, either way audi will find out whats up when they strip it down

    Hope so

I would like to up grade the clutch but after shelling out on the car I'm skint this month, will have to make do for now and I'm only fitting bluefin and not really an agressive driver so hopefully it will hold out for a while

    More bad news,

It would appear my fuel warning system thing doesn't work!

Got 30 miles left in the tank without so much as a beep!

What! that's not practical, it should be approx 40 miles left when the warning goes to give you enough driving time to get to a petrol station. Mine warns at 50 miles roughly, depending on my driving...

think mine goes off with about 25 miles left (if driving round town) or about 40 miles (motorway driving)

on my A3 it beeped at 50 miles?

I am beginning to think I have made a really bad mistake, I have just been out an even though the clutch hasn't slipped this time it feels like there is something wrong underneath. I took it up into 3 figures and it felt like it was going to shake itself apart!

Also I have now noticed it kind of stutter at low revs when you first accelerate ( could this also be related to the DMF? )

Could Audi of sold me a pox ridden car???? or could a lot of it be in my head due to my ill feeling about whats happened?

I am going to phone them in the morning and politely request they get the car in and go over it top to bottom and get it up to the condition it should be in, after all its only 3 years old and got 36'000 miles on the clock so you would expect it to dtill feel like new within reason!

I have the 30 day guarantee so if worst comes to to worst am I entitled to ask for my money back?

Ok, maybe not as low as 15 miles, but definitely less than 30. Thinking about it now mine warns at 20 something, likes jungle's.

to be honest mate it all sounds like its part of the drive train, either clutch or DMF related, let them have a look over it as see what they say, if then your still unhappy, give them the keys back and try something else.

Be polite but be firm at audi. And if your not 100% happy have your money back. Mention that you are thinking of returning it this will buck there ideas up and they will make sure its sorted. If it is the dmf they will have to sort it.
We sold a ford focus. 56 plate 1.6 diesel with 140k miles on it. Customer bought it back as the starter motor was not always engaging. Customer returned the car to us and our mechanic diagnosed it as the fly wheel. Luckily it's not a dm flywheel in these.
Anyway I ordered the flywheel from ford and after our mechanic had fitted it the auto gearbox was making a strange noise. Turns out some of the internals were damaged. So to cut a long story short we are now in the process of paying for a gearbox recondition at a cost to us of £1920! Bearing in mind we only sold the car for £3800. But that the car trade for you. Sometimes these things happen. We are only a small dealer with around 35 cars. Audi on the other hand will sort a problem out like yours quickly and easily I would have thought !
But be firm don't get fobed off

Well they have the car in and are going over it top to bottom ( so they say )

I have made it quite clear that ibwant a new clutch else I will not be accepting the car back as I will be miserable waiting for that moment it finally gives up!

Not much else to tell really except they were very understanding lol

    Another update:

Received a phone call this afternoon from the finance manager which started as follows: "Hi Dave it's John from Audi, hows the new car"

My reply: "You tell me mate?, you've had it longer than I have"!!!

I then told him what has happened and he then told me how there had been a slight mix up with the finance and the £1000 deposit that should have been returned to me by the end of this week would only be £900 as they didn't take the correct amount of deposit on the new car, plus it hasn't been done yet so won't be in my bank till early next week!

It was at this point I finally lost it! I asked what the hell is going on, and pointed out that buying a new car was supposed to be a fun and enjoyable experience but this is turning into a nightmare!

I explained how I have been left without a curtosey car ( I have 9 points and 3 of them do not come off till the 15th of this month! )

I have had to arrange lifts to work, change my plans to se my daughter as I can't get to her very easy on public transport and have no choice but to get taxi's into work over the weekend as there are no buses!

So after a rant and me being seconds away from telling him to stick his car where the sun doesnt shine, I gave my head a wobble and decided to to stop.

He appologised for all the issues and told me he would speak to the service manager and find ut what is happening and ring me back straight away.

I was in a meeting so missed his call but he left me a message to tell me: "your car is up on the ramp and they are looking at it now"

That was at 14:30pm and thats the last I heard!

Sorry for the rant but I need to vent, so what do I do know?

Do I hold out till they ring me with whats happening or do I ring them first thing in the morning and tell them I have had enough and want my money back to go else where?

I keep telling myself that at least it has happened now rather than after the 30 day period.

Apart from a few cosmetic bits ( as would be expected on a car with 36000 miles on it ) it really is tidy, and the engine bay is really clean and it runs fine so I would hope it has been looked after by the previous owner and this is just a stroke of bad luck.

I will give it till the end of my shift tomorrow and if not heard by then I will ring them.

Just naff's me off, the car I gave them was fine and now I have been left with considerable inconvienience!

Firstly ....Never never never wait for Audi to ring you. they probably never will.
Tell them you want a loan car and if thats a problem insurance wise then ensure it on your policy.
Never leave a message with one dept for another dept. Sales dont speak to service who dont speak to spares who dont speak to finance.
I have been through a lot worse than you are going through so stick it out. When i bought my car from Guildford audi the car was ready in the collection room all day because no one thought to let me know it was ready. When i did pick it up the door lock had been pulled out on it which i picked up on before i signed for it...The parts took nearly two months to come in on back order so i rang them in the end and the store man said he had the parts the next day after i collected the car but no one thought to ring me to let me know. The car failed its first MOT 6 weeks later for bald tires...they painted them to look nice..lol they knocked £500 of my PX because they said that had bald tires and they were less than 3000 miles old all round. I could go on....The aircon has never worked. I booked it in for a £290 aircon service and fault check and they said there was no fault. I took it to my local Independent and he checked it. It had 10g of gas instead of 50g !! re gassed it and its been perfect ever since. Cost ? £90
Audi are ****. you have to fight them all the way !! Did i mention the £9000 cam chain affair ? the £900 service !! the 4 hour bill to code the steering module ? The gearbox hitting limp mode ? twice ? and so on. :)

LOL OK that has made me feel better!

Although I wouldn't of bought a car that didn't have a brand new MOT :p

To be fair to them they did say they need to look at the car before they decide what needs doing so until they get back to me I can't really demand anything.

If all goes well I was thinking of asking for a good will gesture for the inconvienience and cost I have incurred but wouldn't know what to ask for lol

Can't believe audi treated you this way ! If I would have miscalculated a finance deal I would have had to pay the £100 out of
MY own pocket and would have had a Almighty rollicking from the owner.
You must must must phone them all the time you need to tell them that they have to pay you the £1000 not £900 that's there problem. Have you paperwork saying the amount is £1000?
Ask to speak to the "dealer principle" and keep phoning 3 or 4 times a day

Its been told here before but at £160 per hour we are talking £1300/day labour so when i had a problem with a misfire it took 4 days to diagnose the problem !!! eventually i paid £4200 and Audi paid the rest but i was lucky because the car was 6 years old and 3 years out of warranty. The up shot was that the service manager told me never ever keep an Audi out of warranty because the repair costs will write it off. He said buy new and extend the warranty for 2 years giving you 5 years cover. after that sell it. I know full well that next time mine goes wrong with anything serious it will probably be written off financially. This is the worry with Audis. People try and run them on a budget but realisticly like all high end cars they are designed to be bought new, run for 5 years under warrenty and then sold off to the masses. thats why they are so expensive for what they are, buy new and no worries but mark my words.......after 30-40k miles you will possibly be looking at expensive running costs. This is why audi are not really bothered about **** S3 clutches, they only have to last a 3 year 30k mile warranty. sorry to sound like a downer but its the same with all top end marques. This is why a £60k Jag will cost you £25k after a couple of years..

Well Audi have rang me back first thing this morning with the following:

New clutch and flywheel to be fitted.

Once they have done that they will continue with investigating the vibration as they weren't sure if it was related to the DMF and wanted to sort that first, but will then check things like the prop shaft etc.

Tracking and wheel balancing also been done.

They are going to give the car a full polish as they noticed some swirl marks still ( anyone else think they are just trying to be nice lol )

The fuel warning system is being checked and will be fixed when they discover the fault.

They have asked to keep it over the weekend and as I am working this is no issue to me as I can borrow a car but they have offered to pay any costs to get me a curtosy car. ( I said if it was not going to be ready Monday I will need one )

    Regarding the finance bit,

I signed the paperwork to say I would give them 'X' amount but they took £100 less by mistake, it was only a verbal agreement about the deposit being refunded and I am still only paying out what I should of done to begin with and TBH its the least of my worries.

Much as I have felt really peed off with what happened and assuming the car comes back in the condition it should be I am glad I held out and look forward to getting the car back.
