    No run in period.

    Just had mine done .

Get these done at the same time.

    1)water pump

    2) tensioner & bolts ( they should do this as a part of it but make sure they do as some try to cut corners and use the old .

    3) aux belt .

Where are you based , i just had all this done at an indi at a good price.

I'm in South East and West London.

Ill be asking for genuine parts (due to warranty) and IIRC tensioners come in the timing belt kit. Also will be asking for waterpump.

Is Aux belt really needed as it can be changed pretty quickly and easily anyway if it goes.

Not sure where I will go yet but I know Audi website shows £400 for cambelt. Probably just go to my usual garage though, I will get plenty of quotes.

    Cheers

If you go to an authorised indi they have to use OEM parts.

The reason i said about the tensioner bolts is yes its in the kit ,but on another forum members car they tried to cut a corner and usr the old bolts which resulted in one of them shearing wrecking the engine .

I had the aux belt done just a matter of course as they were working on it , i don't have to worry about it again.

I paid £412 for all the above so that should give you some ball park figure to work with.

My dealer charged £350 for cambelt and water pump. Didn't think it was bad.

    Cheers,

    Whats an authorised indi?

Who re they authorised by? does it really matter?

Yep £350 seems cheap for a audi dealership. Website says £399 for a timing belt change.

Cheers for the link, they look good, too far away though.

I still don't see anything about it being "authorised". Just - "providing parts matching original specification are used and the manufacturer's service schedule is followed"

My warranty is extended 3rd party with AA now and they specify that the garage is VAT registered and original parts are used to manufacturers spec.

Im just a bit paranoid nowadays as the belt went on my a3 a couple of weeks ago forcing sale and the purchase of my B7. I had my A3 belt done 30k ago but at the time I had it done in a garage I don't know and I don't know if they used original parts or if the pump was done.

Can anyone recommend a good indi in South east london or west london?

Shame as they are a good bunch and like you i don't trust many people. You could email them and ask if they could recommend someone in your area?

Maybe authorised was the wrong word , i meant a place like i linked , they are all audi/vw trained (2 mechanics used to work for audi ) not just a wrench monkey that works on fiestas or astras all day .

Ouch about the A3 i had one go many years ago buy i was very lucky and got away with no damage.

Appreciate your help, seem to have found a good one in clapham (peter norris), mine isnt needed for another 7k or so (73k/3 years old), so I have a while.

I might even go to Audi just for the cambelt/WPump as "west london audi" is near work and get service done elsewhere.

    Just getting ahead of myself
