Hi guys.. long time no see...

    Got a quick question.

I have a 2001 Mineral Grey S3 with rust bubbles shoing along the driver side roof rail insert.

Obviously i'm going to get it sorted asap but someone mentioned it was worth taking it into audi and complaining as the bodys are under a different warrenty??

    Is this the case?

if not Back to plan B and i'll just have to pay for it myself.

    Anyone else had this issue?

    Thanks

Yeah they should cover it. Its 12 year warranty as far as I remeber. Just phone your dealer and they should arrange a weiwing by their bodyshop.

You shouldnt need anything Daz, I just took mine down to the bodyshop and they assessed it. Mine needed a specialist from Audi to come and have a look at it as they though it had been a respray but after he gave the go ahead the had it done within a few days. Nice courtesy car, good job, very happy.

I Have bubbling on both rear arches. I've read on here tho that the arches are almost impossible to get Audi to cover under the warranty.

Anyone had experience of their bubbling arches being covered under Audis warranty.

When the audi guy came to my house he checked mydoors, arches andall sorts of places. He explained why the bubbling happens. Something to do with the galvanising process and a problem with it that whent undetected for a period of time so in theory it can effect almost anywhere on the car but there are common placess

Spotted this problem with mine yesterday whilst washing the car. Hadn't noticed it before so was wondering if all the bad weather recently could be causing it? I'm getting a bit along the groove of the roof on the driver's side. Dunno where my nearest Audi dealer is but looks like I'll be paying them a visit. :eiertritt:

Mines getting a quarter panel resprayed on the 23rd, warranty on Audi bodywork doesn't need any proof, they just need to approve for the repair to be done, which take approx. a week.

as the galvanising is hot dipped onto the panels at the factory i wonder how a bodyshop can re-apply it or do they just do a conventional repair which is likely to rust again. can someone ask the question when they take theirs in for assessing.

I think it should be - the warranty should apply to any audi regardless of where it came from as they were all made in the same place

Katy, yeah the lock 'plynth'. From memory someone on here got that covered too as it was still a galvanised part, might be worth pressing the issue.

I would read through all the past threads though and get yourself armed with as much information and fact as possible.

try another dealer, some will paint it without hassle and others will argue black is white to avoid helping you out. at the end of the day it should be down to audi customer services as to whether it's a viable warranty claim, the dealer should only be the instrument by which you report it.

    Hi Katy
Get back onto Audi and speak to there manager or something. The 12 year warranty should cover all painted surfaces.
Who ever you spoke to you there is just fobbing you off

well ive just been to audi vindis cambridge and a guy came out and looked at the bit i had spotted.. then looked at the other side and actually found some i haddnt spotted.. Both sides are being repaired under the warrenty and while its in i will also pay for the door to be resprayed in the correct colour at last (always been slightly darker due to a poor spot repair with a previous owner)

Thumbs up.. saved me some money anyway!

There's 2 distinct warranties here, one is the paint warranty that last for 3 years, the 12 year one is an anti-corrosion warranty. painted finish obviously comes under the paint warranty. corrosion, which is what we're seeing here obviously comes under the anti-corrosion warranty. usually to qualify the panel has to corrode through from the inside so bubbling isn't automatically covered as it could be caused by a stone chip. interestingly enough i've heard of people getting wheels replaced under the corrosion warrenty

i was told mine was a known fault caused by insufficent sealing wax being sprayed on the folded join between the rear quarter and the roof.

end of the day both sides are being fixed at no cost and they were very helpfull.

I've been speaking with my local stealership for a while about my 'roof bubbling'. They finally agreed to submit a warranty claim and 48 hours later I've received conformation that the issue is covered by warranty. The car is going in next week to have the work done.

In case anyone else is in central London, the dealership was Finchley Road Audi so they're familiar with the problem now.

    Good luck

By the way my car is a 1999 1.8t
