Hey guys.

Over the last few months my a3's power steering amber light has been going on and off intermittently. On a couple of occasions it has gone red but i've never lost the steering. I've had it scanned with VCDS and i've pasted the associated faults below, seems to be related to the power streering control module. Can anyone give me some advice on where to go from here?

Welcome to audi-sport.net. Someone will be along shortly. Enjoy the forum. :) x

Looks like the steering rack is loosing comms, I would check all the wiring underneath to see if its been damaged, dirty connectors or coming loose.

I've been meaning to check that for a while, i'll need to get round to it soon! If it's not the wiring which i hope it is, what could else could the issue be? I'm hoping not a rack replacement!

If not wiring, then its the rack.

I tried reseting the fault codes while the the power steering light was off but they wouldn't clear. If it was a wiring issue surely the faults would clear?

Sounds like it's the rack.

Where are you in Scotland mate? I got my rack replaced in March by Glasgow Power Steering in the east end. They can fit a new one in 2 hours. They will no doubt have a rack for your car in stock as they do tons of them.

If you're within a 50 mile radius they will collect and return your car if it's driveable.

Don't go anywhere near an Audi stealer - they quoted me £1900 supply and fit. GPS did mine for £707 with a 1 yr guarantee.

Bear in mind you would need to pay them cash as they normally only deal with the trade and don't take cards.

I'm in Aberdeen. I'm not going to change it out till its totally gone! I've never lost power assist just the light flashes on every so often! I'm going to check the wiring in the next few days hopefully its something there but im not holding my breath!

So i'm taking my car to Arnold Clark on Monday. I've got their autocare for a year, still covered until august. Not convinced that they'll actually honor it. It covers mechanical power steering but not electric power steering! Good chance they're going to screw me over!

I think that's just the terminology used for years, but means the steering rack in general, I'd be shocked if they were that pedantic tbh.

Yeah, hope you're right. They said they'd probably need to take it to Audi for a second opinion.

Good luck with that mate, they're the biggest bunch of cowboys out there.

So I'm revisiting an old post since my power steering light has come on again! It hasn't come on since June, since Audi reset the faults. i never did get round to checking the wiring or connections. How easy is it to check, would i need to remove anything to check it out??

Thanks
