    Hello,

Sorry to intrude on the A3 board as I'm an A4 owner. There have beens some threads on our board regarding random injector failures on the 170PS engines and whomever is affected may wish to read through it and decide whether you want to report this to VOSA:

    http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/audi-s...yone-else-problem-2006-2-0-tdi-injectors.html

There are no symptoms, the injector fails and the engine dies instantly, no power, steering or brake. Whether you're doing 30 or 70 makes no difference.

Audi are replacing it for FASH customers AFTER it happens, and there is usually some argument over how many are replaced and whether it is a "gesture" or not.

As far as we are concerned it is a safety issue that needed a recall for ALL 170s regardless of whether you got your mickey mouse stamps or not. They say it is coincidence.

Thanks guys, I'll let you get on A3ing!

I had injectors fail on me. Only had car around 6 weeks, luckily has a 2 yr warrenty. But as you said no real warning. mine is a s-tronic n it seamed to go from 2nd to 3rd to 2nd. then coughed and that was it. Audi were very vauge about which ones had gone, as i was also told injection pump had knackered up to. Car had only 39000 miles with full history. Touch wood had no more issues

It's starting to become common on SCN with the Leon FR's too.

Same thing happened to me a week after getting it (not from an Audi Dealer). I had to get it back to Stourbridge (from South Wales). Luckily it was within the warranty period of 2 months so they replaced the faulty injector but now I always have that niggling doubt whenever I drive it.
It had 69,000 on the clock when I got it so I don't know the history (if any of the others have failed) but I feel pretty unlucky that after almost 70,000 miles with no problems it suddenly breaks down a week after I buy it! :(

Would be great if these were recalled but I won't hold my breath.

Don't wait till it happens to you to become involved, send an email to VOSA, show your concern, tell them you have the same engine. You next post should be "well just had my car recalled and they swapped the injectors to the new non-death ones"... not "they just failed on me, and now I need a new boot"... Make VOSA work on it for us, we don't pay them for MOTs so they can chill out and hand certificates to everyone, it's a real safety issue, not a mirror air freshener "blocking the driver's visibility"....

We're in the process of sending parts now to VOSA, the Seat Cupra and Skoda Octavia communities are also aware of this problem and hopefully if they are having similar issues they will step forward.

    VOSA:
    Dear Mr Farhead,

Thank you for the information. If you can send the injector and loom to
myself at the address below. We do need customers to complete a defect
form so as we can log each case to build a complete picture. The VAG
specialist can complete the forms on behalf of the customers if that is
    easier for them.

Look forward to receiving the parts.
    Kind regards

So if any VAG specialists come across any more of these, they can inform VOSA on the customer's behalf... we're slowly getting there...

Sounds really promising. Does it apply to all 170PD or just pre 07 plate?

ive heard its just one brand of injectors that do it. is this mainly restricted to the 2006 year model of vehicle?

It's the Siemens Piezo injectors that have been fitted on the 170 engines, all around 2006 it seems. So affects Seat and Skoda too as they use them. I am still reading through links and articles, but is seems that VAG know it is an issue, yet we're still driving around in them, waiting for them to fail... Now although they will replace them for FASH customers AFTER a failure (with some argument) under a "good will" (read: let's not get sued) gesture... they will not do this for ALL 170 owners... wth is with that... you wait till AFTER a failure and you ONLY replace FASH customers...?!?!?

We have still not been able to send any parts because they are exchange parts (they get a £90 discount on the replacement piece)... how convenient, all evidence gone...

We need to plough on until VOSA give us the VAG verdict... post on more forums, make more owners aware, make more people submit a VOSA form...

well after posting my history on them guess what happened today.... Injector failure again. Glow plug light flashed and then loss all power. So Audi clearly only replaced broken one and didn't bother to do set... I'm going to write to Audi UK as I think its a joke. Only plus side a got brand new A4 avant 3.2 Quattro. But my wallet is suffering... Anyone else suffered the injector curse

my octavia vrs has the glow plug light flash, displays engine fault on the dash. goes into limp mode below 2000rpm but upwards its fine. am i on an injector fault here or is it the dpf sensor as suggested by one computer, the other diagnostic said it was the alarm sensor LOL
    and yes its a 2006

Make sure you find out which one failed originally, which one failed now, and whether the loom was changed as well. There is no point changing the injector without changing the loom as from reading around, some people suspect the loom contributes to it. My injector 3 popped at 16k, loom was not changed by 1st owner even though it was not in perfect condition from the first fry-up. Then injector 3 popped again at 56k...

    Don't forget to report it....

Scanning through some posts on briskoda.net, it seems some people with injector problems do run in limp mode before diagnosing a failure. Have you had a look over there? It would seem the two engines behave differently to the problem.

Sorry to bump a dying thread but anyone with a 170PD should have a scan through this thread:

    http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/audi-s...ne-else-problem-2006-2-0-tdi-injectors-6.html

    Summary:
    - VAG admit the old injectors have a design fault now
    - They are calling in an replacing injectors for anyone who has already had a failure and reported to VOSA, for free
    - They have a modified new injector, so be aware of part numbers
    - They are refunding expenses on anyone that had a failure and had to pay to replace the part previously

    Thanks

    Hi,

I will try to be brief. 1 injector failed a few months ago. Replaced FOC by local audi garage. Last week in France, on way home, car lost all power at high speed in fast lane.

Audi garage in France replaced FOC. Then told me it also needed a new fuel pump which cost over 600 Euros.

2 things really: I am livid that the car is clearly unsafe and my family were put in such date, but also, am I expected to believe that an injector and a fuel pump can fail at exactly the same time without being related problems?

    Any ideas would be great.

    Thanks
