Induction kit

My mate had an HKS induction kit for an impreza going spare, I took a look at it and figured I could make something to fit it to my B5, so I did

The sound it makes is pretty awesome when on full chat, and pretty much silent when then throttle is partially open, so it's really easy to drive quietly if needed. Not bad I think considering it's cost me nothing

Looks great and it looks like you're handy with a lathe too.

But isn't the engine simply going to breath hot air now? Thats got to effect performance?

Bet that bad boy sounds the nutts, Good work on the adaptor u make that as a 1 off? Either way looks the bolloxs wish I could here it at 5 2 6000 revs lol!

If I were you I'd remove the old airbox and refit the ducting at the front to increase the flow of cold air

Have to agree with johnie as it has no where to suck cold air in. But good work on the lathe all the same!
All you have to do is find a way of getting more cold air flow so removing the old airbox might help you get some more air circulating.

i have adapted a mitsi evo 7 hks one to fit mine, but again hot air is a problem, but i have ran a pipe from the original cold intake area by the bonnet grille and then another up from the bumper vent on the side, also i am going to try and build a heat shield around that corner of the engine bay as the turbo and exhaust are the biggest heat producing areas on the 1.8T.

yeah, i'll get some over weekend, also if anyone needs stuff there is jap performance based near gatwick in sussex. they import and break up jap performance cars and have loads of second hand stuff. mainly scoobies, mitsi's and skylines.

you can get a nearly new HKS evo 7 filter and everything for £90 compared to £180 new.

for my 3 inch custom exhaust i was thinking of getting a nearly new s/steel mitsi one and just cut and shut to fit the audi, that way i can use a lot of the pipework and the rearbox,.

Good idea fella I'll be in touch with regard to the filter crack fell I want one think its gonna be easier to fit in the small space.

Thanks for the comments guys, that picture of it installed isn't totally correct as the cold air ducting from behind the grill is in place and also the standard top cover is on covering it all in. The filter is sitting in the bottom of the original airbox so it's reasonably cut off from the heat, but not brilliantly granted.

The adaptor was made as a 1 off on a lathe from an offcut of ally i found kicking about the workshop at work.
