I think all of the B7 (and possibly B6) A4s have the same air filter. When I looked at a Pipercross drop in for the 2.5tdi and thr 3.0tdi, it was the same as the 1.9tdi, 2.0tdi, and I think the petrols as well. Which should mean any induction kit for an A4 will fit...

audi spend millions of pounds devloping their cars. im quite sure the design of the air box and the cheap/easily replaceable paper element filter is more than fit for purpose.

audi fall down where they make their cars too complicated. nothing more simple than an air filter, so its fine.

With that kind of attitude why does anyone ever bother to mod their cars?? Audi build their cars to a cost and to suit the majority of their market, if the man wants an induction kit to give him a bit more noise when he sticks his foot down, why not? Power gains will most probably be minimal unless it's combined with other mods mind.

Thank you jjmurphy. Thats rxactly why i want an induction kit. I will just ignore MURRANS pointless reply.

I contacted a few sellers on ebay but they say the b6 k&n kit will not fit the b7. Also on the k&n website they dont list it to fit b7. I searched long and hard and couldnt find a solution. Surely someone has an induction kit on their one that can helpe.
    Anyone? Any ideas.

It's not like you're asking what's the best dump valve to put on a TDI... :keule:

I know a guy called Carl from near me who had a dual mushroom induction filter, think it might have been a custom job though...

TBH, a drop in panel filter sounds nice. Maybe not quite what you're after?? I've had a pipercross drop in on my old 2.5TDI and current 3.0TDI and they do make a nice subtle 'woosh' sound when the turbo spools up. Probably be even more noticable on a petrol engine. They're £35 or there abouts so it might be worth a look if you can't find a specific induction kit.

Alternatively you could get some pipe of the right diameter, bend it yourself (or get a garage to do it), and make a heatshield for where the air box used to be and make one yourself. No point in having an induction kit if it isn't shielded from the engine though...

So you reckon if i just use a panel filter like a k&n it will still give me better throttle response and a bit more turbo sound?

lol, ok i'll post up something slightly more useful.

k+n's are lightly oiled. some people find the oil effects the airmass, some says its fine, others have problems. something to think about either way.
for me, to end up even maybe needing a new airmass because of fitting a k+n, i wouldnt bother.

if you do go for the panel filter but its not noisy enough...... not sure if yours has this, but... inside the bottom half of the airbox theres like a plastic inner frame with a sound deadening material. if you remove this out of the box, i guess it'll be slightly more noisy but without going to the lengths of butching it with a hole cutter.

is the b7 1.8t engine code different to the b6 1.8t engine code?

according to awesome's website, it looks like the BMC and Pipercross CAI kits fit:-

Audi A4 B7 Tuning, Parts and Servicing

however i would double check with them first, just to be certain!

I'd avoid the K&B, because of the oil. For 2 reasons: 1) you have to treat is in addition to cleaning at every service, 2) The oil can clog up your MAF and be more trouble that it's worth.

That's why I use pipercross, it's foam and oil-free so minimal maintenance. You'll get more sound from a pipercross drop in yeah, how much is probably subjective and relative depending on how much sound you want... but at the end of the day the filter is still sat in a plastic box, so an induction kit will probably give more noise...

I had a drop in pipercross before my induction kit made zero difference to noise or performance dont waste your cash !! Just my experience 1.8T might be transformed by a panel filter !?!

also foam pipercross filters only filter out half housebrick sized particals anything smaller gets through.

having said that an old 1600 mk2 golf driver i had years ago, i ran without an airfilter at all cus the breather system kept soaking the airfilter with oil. so after 3 filters in 6 months i just left it out. ran for 2 years just fine!

    Panel filters:
So k+n is bad for maf.
Pipercross doesnt filter very well but gives a little bit more sound and its safe for the maf?

    GRRRRR WHAT DO I DO???

Really i wanted a cold air intake

Save your cash mate either make yourself a puka intake using a silcon or stainless turbo intake pipe with a cone filter to fit maf or dont bother would be my advice ! But i am sure a pipercoss wont harm the car just your wallet lol

the B6 18T is normaly a AVJ engine
    and the B7 a BFB
iv fitted the B6 onto a B7 and they fit
as above the K&N dont work well with the MAF.

i take it your not 18 years old then??
the standard airbox and element filter flow very well. the're not restrictive. sound is sound, just cus the intake or the exhaust is noisier doesnt mean the car is faster, usually the opposite imo.

    save for a remap.

its like my mate with his mk4 golf. he's lowered it on cut springs on the front and hard ass springs on the rear. it must be all of 15mm off the floor. he thinks it handles great. in truth it's bouncy castle bump steer city......... i could shout at him till im blue in the face explaining the way to actually make it handle well while being able to cross a speed hump...... will he listen? no.
