    Hi all

I'm a new comer to this forum and I've been doing some very heavy reading since ordering my S5 Sportback.

I had placed my order on 13th Sept and have been given a build date of 16th October, is anyone in the same build week as me? Does anyone know when I can expect to receive my S5?

The spec I went for is

Audi S5 Sportback in Navarra Blue
    Magma Red Nappa Leather Seats
    Carbon Atlas Inlays
    Flat bottom steering wheel
    Comfort and Sound Pack
    Light and Vision Pack
    Driver Assistance Pack - Tour
    Dynamic Steering
S Sports Suspension with Damping Control
    Electric Folding door mirrors
    Electric front seats with memory
    Heated front and rear seats
    Privacy Glass
    Red Brake Calipers

    Hey, that's an insane spec!

My Build date is also the 16th October (has been for the past week)

My estimated delivery date was the 18th December and I ordered the vehicle back in July.

My dealer did tell me that the car would delivery around December but I can't see the car taking almost 2 months to deliver when the build commences in just over 2 weeks. So I'm remaining optimistic thinking it'll be at my door by mid/late November.

That’s a great spec... it’s identical options to my S4avant though I did tick the parking assistance package too (would have loved the S5 but need a bigger boot for arrival of dog at some point in ear future)...Navarra red and blue magma interior is fantastic... was a bit sceptvial after ordering, totally convinced now it arrived !

That's a nice looking S4! I'm glad I went the Navarra/Magma Red route - the red is quite bright but I think it'll be a good combo. Looking very forward to it, and to sell my BMW 530d.

Does anyone know how we stand on the APR changing before we collect the car? Do we get it at the lower rate it is now, or the rate it was when we ordered the car? I hear it's dropped by 1.5%.

Read terms and conditions? They must be ready for that, I can imagine when sign upon an agreement you will pay whats in the contract.

It's what ever the rate is when you sign the finance documents. I've had it drop by surprise a few times...Here's your car sir and good news it's now cheaper per month - happy days :racer:

Looks like the guaranteed value has dropped also. My 3 year quote in June had £26130 after 3 yrs and 30k miles. Latest on the Audi site is £23632 for the same term and miles.

Looks as if they are taking the £2500 contribution off of the final value. I guess it could mean monthly payments could be higher as you are effectively paying back an extract £2500 over the term which would offset any benefit of the lower interest rate?

Typically they will offer you the better deal of when you placed the order and when you collect.

They will never...or rather shouldn't..ask you to pay more when you come to collect.

I don't think you can cherry pick the bits that have improved and bits that have got worse though! As in you can't get the lower APR when you collect, but keep the higher GFV when you placed the order! They just look at the deal as a whole and see which is cheaper.

As an aside, the continual drop in the GFV should be sounding alarms for owners....basically don't expect the car to be worth more than the GFV, and get ready for a lower valuation if you want to trade in early....

Just spoke to a guy I know in the trade and he virtually said what you did!: The APR may be lower, but if the GFV is drastically lower than what you have been quoted, then obviously the gap is greater from the loan amount to the GFV, which mean you are borrowing more, so it could work out more expensive per month.

I suppose it depends on how big the GFV has dropped on my order! I suppose they can look at it anyway.

    Thanks guys ;)

I find it interesting on how the GFV can drop? Although nothing has actually been signed for surely it is a significant change in the deal you agreed to? If it was me personally I would be asking questions...

As said before when I experienced a drop in my APR it didn't have an impact to the GFV. This was due to the fact that interest rates lowered so my APR lowered.

It sounds like in your guys cases the APR has changed due to impacts within Audi? Even more so if the GFV is also changing...

Could the quote you got in June be including your options and the one done on the audi website be a standard car? As some options do affect GFV.

You don't ever pay more than what you agree when you place the order. Basically they do a finance quote at the time you place the order and have the APR rate and GFV at that point.

If when you collect these parameters have changed, they will recalculate the finance using the new rates and see how it's changed. If it's lower, you get the lower price. If it's higher, you just pay what you agreed at the time of the order.

Obviously a lower GFV is an indication that the car is actually going to be worth less than they previously predicted. You still keep the GFV when you placed the order, but if you want to trade in earlier (the value is only guaranteed for that time/mileage) or are expecting a higher trade in than the GFV, then you may be in for a shock.

No options affect the GFV. Nothing you add will increase the GFV. It's likely to affect your trade in value though....

I find it strange that some manufacturers (eg BMW) factor options into the GFV but others (eg Audi) don’t.

The list price of my BMW included nearly £10k of extras - some (HUD) had no effect on GFV and therefore put my monthlies up, others (m-sport plus package at £2k nearly) added to the GFV and hardly affected monthlies. There was actually one option (can’t remember which one) that bizarrely (neither me nor dealer could work out why) actually increased the GFV by more than it cost so reduced monthlies!!!

As for my options (£7k worth) on my soon to be S5, they had absolutely no effect on GFV but the dealer did explain this as I was adding more and more to the standard car!

As for GFVs. Think the original idea was to give the customer a few thousand equity come change over time to keep them hopefully in that manufacturers ecosystem. Now I reckon they try to get them as high as possible to give lower monthlies - but have sod all in the car come end of PCP. So now advocate VTing part way through to get you in a new car - with the huge disadvantage that any initial deposit has gone and you need a new one for the new car!

My current BMW is being VTed at 34/36 months - GFV was set at £24k after 3 years - it was worth less than that after 2 when I looked at trading in then - it’s probably worth about 50p now.

Yea very strange. As you say, perhaps BMW set a lower GFV overall, so any minor increases due to options leads to a similar GFV value to what Audi have initially...?

Trade price won't take into account options, but will obviously affect sale price as a used car for Audi, so it's hard to not see it as pure greed from Audi...!

As an aside, don't ever view a deposit on a PCP as a 'deposit'...it's just an initial payment. It's always 'gone'. The whole equity thing is just getting money back you've overpaid because they underestimated the value of the car with their GFV....

The Audi finance guy called me today to clarify the question! He basically said what I had been told and what you just said :). They either switch you to, or keep you on the best deal...so win win :)

I fell lucky with my S3, I'm 2.5 years into a 4 years deal and I'm slightly up (paid the car off after ordering the A5 and what I'm being offered now is £500 less than that figure, BUT I've saved 3x payments!) I only put £1,000 down at the start as well...can't moan at that! I always said the monthly payments are gone...if I have equity at the end then fine, if I don't I'll just put another £1,000 in and start again :) That is what I have just done, to keep the S3 (tyres, mot, breakdown cover, 3rd service etc.) would have cost me close to £1k and it would have been out of warranty in March!

An example I posted a while back when the same subject came up, what options cost per month and how much they increase the GFV on a M140i over 48 months!:

    bmw140i.jpeg

It's also interesting that the more expensive version actually costs less due to the GFV:

    M140 3 door
    £33,150 OTR list
    TRL price OTR £28,900.
    BMW deposit contribution -£2250
    Customer deposit £1000
    47 x £358. Plus GFV £12,474
4.9% APR and 8K miles pa

    M140 Shadow Edition 3dr
    £34,485 OTR List
    TRL price OTR £29,950.
    BMW deposit contribution -£2250
    Customer deposit £1000
    47 x £332 plus GFV £15,125
4.9% APR and 8K miles pa

You would have to be mad not to go for the SE!!! If they had put the new digital dash like they have on the new 5 series into the FL M140i SE I may have gone for one!

lol I didn't see it that way, I saw it as pay £1,000 to keep the S3 and then £382 for the monthly payments and the car is out of warranty, or pay £1,000 to change to a new A5 coupe and pay £388 monthly and have a full warranty :)

I'm happy to pay/lose £400 per month for hassle free driving and no MOT's etc. If in 3 years time I need to put another £1k down then so be it :)

I saw a pic of the car I'm getting...I feel it needs the mirrors at least wrapping gloss black or carbon..or even matte silver!:

lol bad PS skills :D I like the look of the carbon mirrors, but then would it have to be carbon roof?!?!? may look too much!

I spoke to a guy late yesterday and asked how they cut the wrap on the roof, as I was worried about getting the roof scratched. Apparently they have cutting tape that they can put down first then apply the wrap-pull the tape upwards and it cuts the wrap...so no risk to the paintwork :) He said that he's currently working on a ££300,000 Ferrari and the owner of that had the same worry :D that makes my car look like an old banger :)

Had another go :p bit better :)

That’s better! Think with dark mirrors, with the dark roof look great on the lighter colours.

From memory order was placed in the showroom on the 26th August, Audi logged it on the 'Your Audi' site as Order date: 29/08/17 and the build started on the 25th September.

That’s a quick turnaround from start of build to delivery - I thought it was usually a good month or so from start of build to it being in the UK at your dealer!

PS: Tell them that you need it quickly! I'm without a car as of this Friday, as I told the person having my S3 he could have it then, Audi had told me my A5 would be ready this Friday and it isn't going to be!!! I'm now pushing them for a car as it's their fault I'll be without one! All of a sudden they can get it put to the front of the line to be delivered!
