Will be ordering an S3 Sportback soon to replace my A3 SB quattro in Brilliant Black. The black is good, but is hard to keep pristine and seems very sensitive to swirling (even using lambswool mitt and 2 bucket method). I like the look of the Imola Yellow, but am concerned that it is as sensitive to swirling as the black...can anyone with an Imola car comment please? Thanks

Yeah, dont buy it, cause resale I think would be alot harder than anyother colours, of course personal pref but IMHO I would maybe consider different colour.

If it was an S3 then easier to sell but still not as easy a a say black or blue.

But if you dont care about when resale time is up then go for it mate

I always wanted to buy one in yellow and then I drove to see one and I didn't like it. I love yellow cars but Imola yellow isn't yellow enough!

I agree with this. I love cars in "limited" colours like orange and yellow but the Imola yellow does nothing for me at all, not like orange on the ST for example, :yum:.

Only colours I would consider the S3 in are Phantom Black, Ibis White and Sprint Blue, they all look spot on.

I love the yellow. I personally don't like the Orange, just reminds me of the Focus ST!

If the Solar orange was pearlescent then maybe I'd have got one, but it isn't, so it's a no go. It looks good, but not good enough for me.

    Yellow, no no.

Glad we are in agreement ;). I think white cars are quickly becoming the new 'in' colour for the next couple of year. Saw a brand new sparkly white Merc C-Class today and although I am not a Merc guy, I must admit I was gobsmacked by how good it looked.

From starting to look for a used S3 to eventually buying one I spent about 3 months trawling PH, Autotrader etc, and I noticed one particular car which sat on the same garage forecourt un sold for for at least that time. Good spec, low miles, £23K.......in YELLOW, coincidence? Maybe.

If you love the colour and care not about resale, go for it. Otherwise pretty much all of the other colours (except orange) look good IMO especialy Sprint, Ibis & Phantom.

    good luck

    Cheers
    Paul

I looked at a yellow S3 (Stratford Audi) on my way to Chester, had arranged it ,when I got there the car was dirty (put me off straight away) so I asked them to wash it,which they did, but the whole car looked different shades of yellow so decided against it.

No it doesn't, but we're just trying to give you some friendly advice by saying don't buy it in yellow.

By virtue of the fact that none of us have answered the question and none of us have Imola yellow cars I'd say we don't know the answer to your question.

    Agree^^^.

It really does depend on what your priorities are though. If you are buying the car to have for quite some time or your not worried about resale value then go for it, at the end of the day its personal choice and where would we be if everyone liked the same thing. Also the other positive to be had is you should be able to negotiate a good deal with it being an "unpopular" colour.

Only if the car is in the showroom already. If you're ordering you won't get any discount because it's you that is choosing the colour.

Oh yeah obviously, i forgot that he was looking at buying one new, i got confused with all the talk of certain cars sitting around for months losing money on forecourts.

Is it just me or are light yellow colous VERY suseptable to discolouration/fading over time? Makes sense that yellow would absorb UV rays more than most colours. Someone mentioned above that an imola S3 looked different shades of yellow all over so there could be something in it.
One of my favourite colours on any car is the pearl orange (don't know the correct name!) used by lamborghini. Switches from yellow to orange and looks stunning in sunlight. I do like Solar Orange though...For those who are brave enough! I'm not a fan of white cars at all even though the S3 and Golf GTI look good.
I'd spec Avus pearl silver on any new Audi but thats just 'safe' old me!

Choose yellow at your peril !!

Saw one at the dealer not long after I collected mine, YUK !!

To answer your question, would not show swirls, marks Etc as bad as black.

i own an imola yellow S3 and it looks great, i guess its down to personal choice, I'm on my second imola yellow car as i owned 99 plate S3 before which i sold with no problem at all. The 'safe' option is to go for a black or grey which imo do not stand out, Sprint Blue, Imola Yellow and Solar orange are the only colours exclusive to the S3 so go for it.

My local dealer has one on demo and it looks distinctive - I've seen it driving around and it looks nice, but is too 'loud' for my taste. Personally, I prefer the Q car look, hence the silver (sooooo last decade apparently ;) )

If you like it, get one bought!

Imola yellow masks defects such as swriling very effectively (dont know why). I made this comment once to Polished Bliss when enquiring about products and they agreed given their experiance! I am only considering doing a paint correction after four years of ownership. Dont really need to but i am a bit fussy to say the least.
In my opinion it looks class and really makes your car stand out from others. In the wet though, it is a pain as it really highlights all the dirt. As the dirt builds the yellow gets duller but not as bad as the awful tucan yellow.
Go for it you will not regret, but be prepared to wash every weekend!

Thanks for the info and advice. Still undecided; I'll have to go and find one at a dealer to look at before deciding. I love the black but it is a pain to keep looking good. Hate silver..too common and always reminds me of a reps car. Might well end up with sprint blue i suppose....

I thought about getting a yellow S-line when I 1st started looking at A3's but I saw one in the metal when I was driving along one day and it looked shocking so that idea went out the window!

The previous shape S3 looked really good in yellow though.

Silver is for the man/woman who can't make their mind up ??? always the safe bet.

Sprint Blue, Nice !!! Not as common as people make out, in 16 months I have only seen 5 S3's and they were not all blue.

    Watch it! lol.
I think Imola on an S3 looks incredible. There is one in the town near me and I think it is stunning. As for swirls etc, my Toucan one doesn't have any, and it's over a year old and I don't look after it the way some others on the forum do (not enough cash!)

Lunar Orange - one in Manchester; looks stunning also. A local asian lad has his Mk1 TT in it as well; awesome.

And the other day I saw a Sprint Blue Q7 which was INCREDIBLE!

    Sorry I went off topic.

I chose silver (once I'd eventually made my mind up ;) ) as I didn't want to be a sheep and get sprint blue. Surely the safe bet would have been sprint blue? I like the subtle look of my S3 in silver, and in the year I've had it, I haven't seen another yet (seem plenty of sprint and phantom S3's though - bit common now!!)

Oooo !! Put's dummy back in pram.

Now! Now ! I don't just mean S3 owners, look how many silver cars are on the road, next time you are in a traffic jam count around you how many silver cars there are, loads I bet.

Anyway, I do think the S3 looks good in silver, good choice my friend.

Don't worry, dummy never went anywhere!

If I'm honest, if I didn't have a 13 month old daughter and a very high maintenance girlfriend, I would have had phantom or ibis, but I hate it when my car is dirty. Therefore I would have been cleaning it every other day and the grief just wouldn't have been worth it! So it was the most convenient colour I suppose.

Yup, there are many silver cars around, but now that it's 'not fashionable' anymore, no-one will buy a silver car and soon it will be even more exclusive again. Like the reverse psychology?!

As I said before I looked at an imola s3 loved the actual look of the car but the bumpers seemed a different shade to the wings, the wings looked a different shade to the bonnet,it just looked like it had had a bad colour match repray (maybe a good clay and polish might have sorted it)
I was originally looking at an ex demo so in theory resale should even itself out.
I still think the std selection of colours for the S3 are poor not everyone wants black/silver and as I know I wont keep mine for much more than 18 months I picked sprint blue as a possible " safe colour"

    Sprint is best FACT!

People will love you, women will fancy you, kids will wish their Dad had one.

    Also makes your nob bigger.

Hope that helped make your mind up.

Good luck mate, (you wont need it though if you buy a Sprint S3.!):rockwoot:
