my Gf has recently bought an A3 1.8T I've driven it a few times, seems nice not quick by any means but nippy (ish) i haven't even had chance to have a snout under the bonnet.

would the power rating be embossed on the engine somewhere i.e. engine cover or something?? or is there any other way of knowing which engine it has 150, 180 etc?

its a 2003 model..and thats all i know to be honest, no point asking her either as she is absolutely useless

take the engine cover off. its either on the left or right (can't remember which side) a little metal block sticks out . it will have 3 letters punched in. thats your engine code

    i think most post 00 are 180

engine code is on the V5, and also on a sticker in the service book and in the spare wheel well area.

Better checking those, as its always possible (if somewhat unlikely) the head has been changed.

It'll only be a 180 is it is a TQS, all FWD A3 1.8t's were 150BHP out the factory.

My money is on it being an AUM.

cheers mate, it confirmed my bum dyno that it didn't have 180, although i reckon its got closer to 120 maybe 130, i know it will be very linear in delivery as its totally and utterly standard

I didn't say it was it just feels like it, but of course it could just be the linear power delivery of a standard car.

as for scanning for codes, unless there is someone in or around cambridge that has VAGcom (i think its called?) or even Essex where i live fancy slapping it on and having a look?
