hi,

Can anyone tell me if the standard rods & pistons on a 61 plate S3 be up to the job of handling a hybrid turbo? Obviously the amount of boost will b taken into account.

Torque is the thing you need to consider.

The engine is safe to 440lbs and you're very unlikely to exceed that with a hybrid.

Hi Ryan,

Didn't really have much time earlier, but if you can bear a read through my huge thread, most of what can be done to this engine is in there at some point.
I ran mine with a GT3071 turbo, which is bigger than most of the hybrids, and had that running reliably and safely to 440lbs for some time.

Only when I moved to larger turbos did we get the internals forged etc,and most of the hybrids are aimed to engines with stock internals.

Have a word with @TTE Si and he'll be able to give you a lot of information about the TTE hybrids which a lot of people are using on the S3.
