Has anyone got a hybrid turbo on their car or know of any?

My standard one went pop today so i was thinking of upgrading, although I'd probably needa new clutch and intercooler and more mapping etc.

Is it worth it?

New turbo is €1400 fitted :banghead:

How do you know yours went pop what are the signs ? I lost my turbo boost today when I was driving ...but it has come back.

A loud pop then loads of white smoke out the back and no power. Turned it off straight away and I got it towed to my mechanic, who just called me and said my GEAR driven oil pump has probably **** itself and killed my turbo due to low oil pressure.

What?! Thats crazy. You had it converted, like me and yet it still went pop?!

Any reason why the gear driven oil pump failed? This isn't the sort of news i like to hear. I'd like to hit the 200k barrier in my car without my turbo failing or oil pump going!!

What mileage is your car on? Serviced well?

Before you think of going hybrid, try finding an uprated clutch you can use first since Helix/Sachs or LUK dont do a uprated clutch apparently for the B7 2.0 TDI, or perhaps just the 2005 models as i've been told by AMD technik, Awesome GTI and JBSDESIGNS.

I'm thinking of giving up hope and buying a standard clutch and flywheel.

My mechanic was pretty sure it's the oil pump I'll should know later toady.

Car has 73000miles, had a new engine from audi at 25000. serviced every 10k with longlife oil. I think sachs do uprated clutchs now, they have one on their website now. 2.0 TDI 16V (103 kW ; 11/2004 - ) - TTNET - Sachs Performance Parts

You could also give these guys a ring about a clutch, Clutch specialist in the UK : Kestrel Transmissions or these guys Clutch Specialists Manufacturer and Supplier of Handmade Clutch Kits

I'll let you know how I get on with the oil pump, although i have to say I don't think i'll be able to afford a hybrid if its the oil pump.

Thanks for the link mate. Looks like sachs do infact do a clutch for my car, now its the flywheel i have to find to match it lol. I'll start searching!

Ok so, it's not as bad as I first though.

When the car had a replacement engine it got a blb with the gear driven pump.

I asked my mechanic to drop the sump etc to find this out as I wasn't sure and no one could tell me and to check for any wear, there was a small bit of wear on the hex shaft but it should be ok for a good few thousand miles now, so it was just the turbo that let go (in a most spectacular, worst the turbo guy has ever seen way!)

I'll get some pictures of the turbo when I go pick the car up. Can't afford to go hybird yet but i'll probably get an uprated clutch when the time comes.
