Hunting/surging at low speeds when cold

I get surging when it's cold and at low speed in 1st/2nd. Goes away pretty quickly so never really bothered me. Please don't tell me it's going to blow up if I don't get it sorted!

not sure of the consequences, if you're due a service get it sorted when it goes in.

Just had a major service. Didn't mention it to them though. Really only lasts a minute or so until it's up to temperature. Seem to remember other people reporting something similar. Don't know about the TDi but this could well have been another one of the 1.8T 'characteristics'. Can anyone confirm?
