HOWTO: A must do mod - poly dog-bone mount!

got my dog bone bush today but no entirely sure of the quality. As you can see from the pics, there is one part of the bush which looks like its had sand paper rubbed on it for a bit, and a bit of a flat bit on the edge. Is it sage to put them on or should I discuss it with Awesome??

Your not going to notice it so I'd not bother

Well, 2h and 45m later I finally finish. Thought the threads were in the main metal bit. How wrong was I. One vice and g clamp later, I thought I must be missing a trick as it still wouldn't bite. Turns out the little nut had fallen out without me realising. Found it in the gravel were I was cleaning the mount parts. Got my ex scaffolder of a dad to squeeze the mounts together and managed to get it done up easily in one. Nothin like wasting a bit of time!!

Can anyone tell me the part numbers for the 13mm bolts please or what sort they are am sure I read M8 somewhere but can't find it
Thanks

Hi just ordered mine is it worth doing the front engine mount at the same time?

Ok just done this and for less than £20 probably the best mod for the money took me 5 minutes to do with no specialist tools

Part numbers for the 2 13mm bolts if anyone needs them are
N 102 683 04
£1.25 for the 2

Do you really need a torque wrench for this, be honest guys...

I've had mine sitting in my glovebox for 3 weeks but haven't got around to fitting it since I can't find my torque wrench.

sorry to bump a old thread.

looking at ording a yellow mount now. is it really as bad as people say or just some people being fussy (no offence to said people complaining about yellow mounts being to stiff)

Can't say based on any evidence, but the fact that a lot of people are complaining about the yellow, yet the red gets rave reviews (Made a massive difference to mine) means that choosing the red one seems a bit of a no brainer! It also depends on whether you don't mind the added vibration in your car.

If you want to keep your fillings go for the red :)

Just ordered a red one!

To confirm, I just need to replace 2 bolts (N 102 683 04) when I re-install?

Thanks to the OP!

When i replaced mine i used the original bolts as they all came out reasonably easy but alot of people have had them snap when removing so have had to replace them.

Fitting a yellow main bush and purple small bush tomorrow, will let you guys know the outcome tomorrow.

Done exactly the same to mine last year, made a hell of a difference. But you have to live with vibration for 500 miles but after then the vibration disappears.

well i fitted some yellow bushes and a purple round one about a week ago.
i torqued up the central bolt to 20nm(well 25nm as that was the lowest my torque wrench went) and the improvement in driveability is night and day. no more thuds or knocks when accelerating or on lift off. and there were no vibrations or rattles that others have complained about.

I got the red bush ready to go, anyone got a link to the purple one? I guess I might as well do that one at the same time.

This is the setup I have been running since Friday. Wanted to do it once so did them together. So far very, very slight vibration on fast idle. Exaggerated when the A/C is on. Most noticeable for me when slowly reversing. This probably sounds much worse than it is. As it is I would not hesitate to recommend it. If the vibrations reduce then even better.

I think I got the purple bush from bennetts website.

I changed over to red at the weekend. It's made a nice difference, no more engine wobble on gear change, and everything feels a lot tighter. I didn't realize that there was a little threat that could fall out when you undid the bolt for the bushes, so that took a while to figure out why I couldn't screw it back in and about 30 minutes to find.

Happy with results, though. Thanks OP and everyone else. :)

That sounds like a helicoil, still fine to use but a drop of locktite on the spring would stop it coming out again, helicoils are stronger than the original thread by the way :)

No, I mean when you take the dog bone out and undo the giant bolt that squishes everything together, there's a little thread on it's own not attached to anything that you put in to bolt everything together, that's what I lost/found.

Just ordered mine from demon tweaks.... red for dog bone, and the other end in the purple. Will update when installed. Might take a while to get down to New Zealand. Only GBP 8 for shipping to the other side of the world, not too bad. Much cheaper than buying here.
