Howdo, Did a mod to the car last night which I was hoping would help with the gear selection problems I've been having recently... It's a popular mod on the mk4s and I'd not seen much about it on here, so I thought I'd give it a go...

There's no write-up to do as such on it as there's a really good one here for the MK 4 golf (Guide: Powerflex PolyBush Dog Bone Replacement - uk-mkivs) - the only difference is the S3 has a lower strut brace which is just a couple of 16mm bolts to undo and swing out the way...

I've been reading about the yellow powerflex bush giving a few too many vibrations into the cabin, so I went with PFF85-420R which is designed for the diesel engines but fits perfectly and there's no extra vibrations over OEM IMO...

Anyhow, the results... Well an annoying judder has gone when on/off light throttle in stop/start traffic, the gear selection problems have gone and it feels a lot tighter to drive. All in, for less than £20, it's a must-do mod and only took about half an hour to fit on the driveway with no special tools...

lol, mine doesn't any more.... I had to cut mine off as the pinch bolts jammed and wouldn't undo from the subframe.

To be fair, it does absolutely nothing.

if you wanted to go one step further too, You can also replace the front bush in the dog bone with a powerflex one.

I just picked up a set of INA track density engine mounts last night, and it's got the INA dog bone bush, and also a powerflex bush pushed into the front mount.

Expecting it to be really rather noisey once all that lot is fitted!

Yeah, I've seen the superpro front bush too but I wanted some refinement (it is an Audi after all ;)) but an improvement in driveline control. Works well :)

I was under the impression that Tim aka 1animal1 hated this mod as it made the car vibrate awfully at low speeds?

Maybe on the yellow bush which has a higher shore rating. That's exactly the reason I went for the diesel bush as it should (and does) give you no vibrations...

Hello, I did use to have Yellow one fitted, but removed it after a few weeks due to a lot vibrations being felt in the cabin,

I might give the PFF85-420R ago as it does say on the web site "This bush is for the diesel engined cars, a softer material than used in PFF85-420"

Thanks for the info, I may also try half of the OE and half of the Yellow

Long delivery times and an apathetic attitude really - Ordered on a tuesday lunchtime for an in-stock item and they weren't even posted till the Friday so I didn't get them till post the weekend. When I spoke to them, their answer was they didn't know why it took so long.. :( Sure they are a very reputable company but their mail order wasn't my favourite - I order a load of bits off ebay and they always turn up the next day / the day after... You kinda get used to that great customer service!

I still have mine but as welly said the bolts are stuck but to be honest you could bend the brace with your own hands

FTR i hated mine, did what everyone above says...but mine juddered the dash at some junctions and became annoying - contemplated changing it just before i got rid - i'd never go polyflex again for a daily driver

if the diesel one is softer plus its only 20 quid then its got to be a winner over genuine audi one, not sure how much they are but i can imagine more.

I use the powerflex bush on my daily, and to be honest I don't see it as a problem at all.....

Vibrations arnt bad at all, but the improvement is well worth it

Just fitted the R32 dogbone mount to my diesel and it was worth every penny, zero vibrations but you feel ten times more connected and in control.

I was amazed just how good the modification is

Hmmm....i'm not going to let rip here i'm going to choose to hold my tongue. But I will say this, I did hold Awesome right up there with the best, taking note of the "did".

By the way. I too have the Poweflex yellow from Awesome, it does vibrate a little more at lower speeds, but it's worth it.

Yep that very one. To be honest with you I had so much done at Awesome GTI (6k spent) that it's hard to tell exactly what made what difference, it used to be notchy going into second gear, but thats one thing that seems to have gone now.

Yup, same for me on the red one. Each to their own and I'm not knocking what anyone else has done but the red one seems to be a good compromise for refinement and improvement. Sure the yellow one would be ideal on a track car, but on a road car where refinement is important, the red seems a good option :)

Red has been ordered :) only 18 squids from awesome. Worth a try. Can't be worse than a ten year old bush.

I realise how wrong that sounds uh oh
