I tend to go every 10000 miles or 12 months, whatever comes first.

Call me crazy, but I oil service my car approx every 8000 miles which includes air filter too and the next service after that I include diesel filter on the list.

Funny thing is I only do approx 1200 miles a year. So end up doing the service every year December/January

In the book and on the car display it is 10,000 miles or a year on fixed servicing, which is loads better than long life schedules cocking everything up with the oil inspection and time inspection reminders.

Think it's 15,000 on long life services, but that needs special oil to be in there that long.

I stick to old fashioned once a year full service and oil and filter every 6 months, have done on my petrol cars. But as I run the car on bio diesel now I will also be doing the fuel filter every 6 months, it has pipercross panel life time filter in so it's practically a full service every 6 months.

I probably do about 10,000 miles a year, if I was doing 1200 miles a year I would be more inclined to just stick with the annual full service and skip the oil changes in between, the oil is still like new !

5K or every 6 months for oil & filter, and getting the stuff from TPS makes the cost around £30.

As mine is on nearly 200k, I do Oil and Filter every 3000 miles/3 months.
Although ive only owned the car for a month and already done a full service + a 2nd oil change!

    I don't bother servicing.
At the end of the day, oil is good nowadays compared to decades ago so lasts a long time.
Done 40k in the car since I owned it and not changed the oil/filters, oil level has barely budged too - its just over the minimum mark.
Even if it reads below the minimum there should still be enough oil in there.

The added stuff in the Oil wears out... Yes the oil is better today than years ago but You still need to change it, regardless of consumption

You may be joking but I knew someone that never serviced their car in 3 years, engine packed in on the 4 year as the Oil was like tar. I asked her when it was last service, response back was "I got the car from new why did I need to service, that's just for used cars" [IMG]

I have an uncle that runs a 1.6 Escort. A few years ago I was talking to him about cars, saying how often I service my car etc and to my amazement he said he had never changed to oil once in the Escort since he owned it, it's been topped up but never changed. He must have owned the car nearing 10 years at that point and as far as I know it's still running now! And no he isn't the type to BS!

I do my AVF engine oil and filter every 5k miles, always have done. Fuel filter once a year before winter to prevent problems with cold and air filter is K&N gets clean and oil then too. I also do pollen filter annualy as its so cheap and easy.
I have an ECS magnetic oil drain plug. Gets a clean when out.
I buy genuine filters from ebay Audi dealer, a lot cheaper.
I buy platinum oil from local Audi stealer, havent seen it anywhere else ??
What does TPS stand for ?

Oil and filter changed every 5000 miles here too.

Fuel, air and pollen filters changed once a year/20000 miles.

I get all my bits from TPS. They are the VW Group Trade Parts Specialist and basically supply the main dealers with the original parts

To buy direct the majority require you to be in the trade.

    Like anything, its all subjective..

It depends on how you drive the car, how often, what kinds of journeys, does it get fully warmed up each time etc..

I'd generally service it every 10-12k miles or once a year, whichever comes first. At the end of the day, you can't really change the oil too much, and running the car on nice fresh oil all the time will be good for it. However, changing the oil every 12 months or 10,000 miles won't hurt it as modern oils are generally pretty good.

I seem to remember that on the B6 1.9 engined cars the long life services were every 18,000 miles and this has been proven to be too long and can cause wear in the engine, so I'd make sure it serviced more often than that.

As far as the air filter is conerned, they're only cheap so it doesn't hurt to change them each time, though if it were me I'd just make sure it was fully cleaned up every six months and changed every 2 years.

The fuel filters do clog up too and so its worth keeping on top of those.
