Iv had a few bikes but never anything serious on the road.
    Most have been trials/motocross
    Aprillia climber 280
    Beta Techno
    Honda CR500
    Kawasaki KX 250
Kawasaki KMX200 (BIT OF GREEN LANE FUN)
Yamaha TZR250 Theres been a few others in between.
My dads now got a Yamaha FZR 1300 Which is lovely and my brothers just got shut of a Gixxer 750.The temptation to get a "proper" bike is massive but,
Iv lost 2 friends in as many years in bike accidents so the Mrs wont let me have another..

Didn't even know this thread existed until it was put in another! Haha.

Here's mine though, a '13 plate ZZR1400 Special Edition with some Scorpion cans, tail tidy, splattering of carbon, levers and HID headlights. :)

My new found love - CBR600FS-1.

Picked up two weeks ago, its currently getting some TLC in my spare time - few bits need doing (chain & sprocket, rear shock rebuild), sorting out abit of wiring at the front as it looks like it was done by Stevie Wonder.
Fresh oil, filter, coolant and plugs and should be happy to go.

Its been a long time coming, wanted a bike for a few years but only recently had the push to get the tests done and buy a bike.

Should be heading down to Ace Cafe (London) this Sunday (18th May) for a spring meet of some sort. Gonna be my first ride-out/bike meet, got a few of us leaving from Leicester for around 10:30am. Apparently there are 2 or 3 casual riders (hopefully), so I won't get tempted to go overboard in an attempt to try keeping up with the more experienced riders. I'm not an extremely experienced rider myself but I have been picking up techniques and learning more and more about bike handling over the last few months I've been riding my SV650.

If anybody else is going this weekend or if you have any advice, tips or just let me know about your first ride out experience then feel free to post.

    Azeem.

You come across as level-headed when you say you wont be tempted to go overboard.
Im guessing you have had numerous rides out by yourself?

My tests are next week (cant bloody wait) - I have planned to ride around a few familiar roads North Wales alone a few times before I even contemplate going out with anyone else.

A friend of mine who passed a few years ago told me that the worst thing you can do is follow someone elses line - as you end up not learning as quick or learning the road - if they make a mistake you will more often than not end up following them.

Best of luck and enjoy - ill be purchasing my leathers this weekend.

I definitely can appreciatte the power of the bike and respect that, but I also know how tempting it can be to try and "match" others around you. I have been on a few rides alone in the lanes but mainly around the city ring roads and around town as I purchased the bike in August last year and I'm only just getting the chances (weather dependent) to take it out for a good amount of time. I certainly wouldn't class myself as an experienced rider just yet, but I'm certainly competent and have a good theoretical understanding at least.

Best of luck with your tests!

Some nice bikes in here, I ride an old zx6r on an 03. Have thought about getting something newer but I ride it like I stole it and would worry about stacking something worth a lot. The 636 is a pretty sorted bike anyway IMO.

ZX6R looks quite modern from the front!

Quick question for the bikers - I have smoked my rear tail lights and indicators - they just look black but they light up the correct colour brightly, would this be ok for its MOT?
I have left the rear reflector untouched.

Yesterday was an amazing ride out with amazing weather! I actually didn't really fall behind suprisingly and the pace was fairly quick on the way back too.

Anybody else out on their bikes over the weekend?

    Hey fellow bikers...................

If you look very closely, you can see my 2011 Repsol Fireblade at the back of the garage, I can just get the Audi S4 parked in the garage too with just inches to spare.

And here's the fireblade in all her glory.

And the last pic is the day I bought her brand new.

Great to see us old Audi drivers appreciate bikes too.

Most 600's are a great bike to gain experience on and still very fast, depends if you want to go the sports bike route or naked. If you go naked you can't beat a Triumph Street Triple, if you fancy a Sports Bike, then any of the jap bikes are great and reliable.

Good luck with your Mod 1, remember mirrors mirrors mirror's, plenty of should checks and to turn off your indicator as soon as you've completed the turn. Silly things that a lot fail on.

Thanks for the tips. I prefer naked bikes. My mate who is doing the license with me wants a street triple. I can't decide between a 696 monster, er6-n, xj6 or gladius. Decisions decisions

My Opinion Only (Been Riding Bikes all my life and now I'm in my late forties.........

696 Monster - Nice bike but parts very expensive as is servicing, bit of an old thumper of an engine, I think you'd get bored of it when your mate opened up his triumph you'll be out ridden in every way.

ER6-N - Great bike, with modern styling and engineering. You'd love it, it's light, agile and quick.

XJ6 - Heavy, but a lot of bike for the money. Personally if you rode an ER6 or a Triumph after purchasing an XJ6, you'd realize what a mistake you'd made. Good reliable bike though.

Gladius - Seen Them, Never Ridden One........ But compared with a Triumph Street Triple or Kawasaki ER6, it's not in the same league and doesn't have the same build quality. Still using a steel frame I believe.

Triumph - Well, there's no arguing the fact that it's won so many magazine shoot outs by a mile, just buy any bike mag and it will always be their top choice of for a 600 naked...... But as a result of this, they hold their money and are a little more expensive to buy, But you won't suffer from the same depreciation as most, so you get your money back when you decide you want a 1000cc bike (And You Will), but don't make the mistake of going for a 1000cc as your fist bike.......... Huge Mistake, which some people make. You need a minimum of a year of gaining experience on a good 600 before going to a 1 litre bike. 1000cc bikes in inexperienced hands is an accident waiting to happen.

Triumph would be my first choice, Kawasaki ER6 would be second choice.

    Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I'm not a fan of the lights on the street triple. I'm swaying more towards the er6-n. They have one where I'm training so I'll see if they'll let me loose on it

In between bikes at the mo,

Sold my Suzy gsx1400 a few months back to fund the last bit of a deposit for a buy to let mortgage.

I desperately want a bmw k1300r now that my finances are less stretched, another 2 paydays and i will have saved enough, can't wait! test rode one last week and went back 2 days later for another go! I'd urge any biker to go out and try one! Never been on a bike so comfortable and soo chuckable. I'm in love!

    Thats a mean looking thing!
A friend has an S1000r - I cant look at it for too long otherwise I turn green with envy!

Iv been riding just over a month now - done around 1900 miles, gradually getting there.
Drew a stripe over the rear tyre with a bic pen to see what my lean angles are like - gradually the break in the line is getting wider apart.
Dont think the bike has thanked me for the quick increase in mileage though - need to do the chain tensioner and valve clearances as-well as tyres (going for Battlax 021's), chain and sprockets. The MOT is due this month too, ah well, its worth it!

problem is, it's a hoot to ride, and already scraping the pegs around roundabouts.... FAIL! lol
