This is my current commuter tool a Gilera ST200 Runner. It will comfortably cruise at 70mph with some left in reserve. Handles really well thanks to the bigger wheels and wider rubber and does 70 - 80mpg & £36 a year to tax it.
Nice bit of kit some of you guys have got there. Unfortunately I failed my module 2 exam a couple of weeks ago (left too much room from the kerb turning left on T-Junctions and examiner pulled up next to me the third time).
I'm quite a short guy (5ft 4") but I really have my heart set on getting an R6 for some time next summer. Wise idea or am I going to end up killing myself? I've got a CBR125 which I share with my brother and been riding for well over a couple of years now including a 50cc moped when I was 16/17 years old.

I hope your going to retake your MOD 2, i find it odd that they can fail you for that reason, after all, the whole of the road is there to be used. Reference the R6, i'd say go for it, just remember that it'll only go as fast as you want it to. I only passed my test in April of this year and jumped straight on the Street Triple R having never ridden a motorcycle of any kind before and that is essentially a Daytona sportsbike without a fairing (slightly less top end, more midrange grunt). You may need to fit some lowering links due to your height but this is no biggie, plenty of kits about.
Lovely Speed R you got there, it was the brutal looks of the Speed that got me into the Street Triple R, with me being a new rider this year insurance was much cheaper on the Street. Wouldn't mind a Speed TBH as i think they have a great presence about them, but a sportsbike is next on the list for me, either a Daytona, Gixxer 750 or similar :thumbsup:
Yes got the MOD2 re-booked (£180+) for mid November. Wish me luck. I'm quite good in a sense of respecting a machine and it's power so I know I'd behave myself on one, it's just I don't know what to expect in terms of unexpected surges of power LOL. Sounds silly I know but I don't want it to kill me if I make a little mistake if that makes sense? Just need some kind of room for error (being a new rider and all).
TBH i don't think there is room for error on that sort of bike, an R6 is basically a track bike in standard form. Might be worth having a more 'forgiving' bike for a year just to get used to the acceleration but then again you wouldn't be the first that's jumped staight on a supersport bike, plenty of my mates have and they are ok. As you say, you can respect the power of a machine so you should be alright, just hold on tight the first few times you twist that throttle

How did I miss this thread......tuts. Well was a biker but let all my bikes go when I had to go on ops for 6 months. That was nearly 4 years ago and havent bought anything since.
This YZF750 was rebuilt from scratch. Was my mates who was banned for speeding (138mph) and he stored it in a barn where it was set upon by birds, ducks and all manner of animals. Came to me and voila.
2nd project was a ZX7RR.......was overhauled and this is it before the paintjob.
This is my dream bike IF I can find one cheap enough.

It is Simon......to find an original in a non-abused state is like trying to find Pandoras Box. Nigh on impossible. Found afew though but rocket high price tag which is what I have been expecting.

Yeah the OW01 was an awesome bike but highly collectable. I know of 2 RC30's and an original RC45 that live just outside Elgin but the chances of the boy selling are very slim.

Just passed my test last Thursday guys! I'm now open to anything on two wheels. Hopefully I'll get my hands on a YZF-R6 for summer this year. What are insurance prices like on bikes? I've got my brothers CBR125 for the time being and 3 years NCB too.
My CBR600RR (2003):
Full titanium Akropovik race system on it, Power commander, Sprint pro steering damper, Quickshifter, full race fairings, and a few other bits done with it.

Ex British superstock 1000 bike. Currently has the blueprinted standard engine in (circa 185 bhp), I've had the spare engine tuned and is now producing 206bhp on the dyno. I'm saving that engine until the weather dries up a bit! Also has full Ohlins, and pretty much everything else to be expected from a superstock 1000 bike
That's exactly what I want. Used to live abroad and road bikes for 4 years over there but don't have a UK license. My favourite, used to rent them all the time, was a D Tracker 250. Properly amazing on mountain roads and more than quick to 80mph than any car and more usable than any sportsbike. As an ex BMXer it suited me down to the ground. Please keep me in mind if you ever sell as lots of DRZs tend to be abused or too expensive. I'd like the Yamaha is it a YRF450? But anything thumpy with SM wheels/tyres.
Looks good George. What club do you race your bikes with or is it just track days? Im doing a practice day on my R1 at Snetterton 300 on 11th of March with Hottrax. Maybe i'll see you there?
Just track days for now as I'm not fast enough to race. Only got my bike license in October, I did plan on sticking with the 600 for a bit but the R1 came up for sale by my mate and I couldn't say no! So the CBR became my wet bike
2 of my mates race in Derby Phoenix (one in steel frame pre-injection 600s, one in unlimited <1300), so I'll be at all those races this year. I'll be at the Hottrax race down at Snetterton on the 9th and 10th of March, a friend of a friend is racing there after winning the Thai superbike championship.
I'm also at most Oulton park NoLimits track days too so if you're ever there you will probably see me

Well i might bump into you at Snet then. Im in two minds for doing the races on Saturday and Sunday. See what happens on the day I think. And your Thai superbike champion wouldn't be Gaz Johnson by any chance? Would be good to catch up with him if he is there.
