I'm not sure if it's just the clear coat peeling or not. It looks like a dull matt black underneath. I've only just noticed it somehow, despite having the car since August, so I'm not sure if it's rapidly getting worse. The area affected is about half the size of a beer mat.

Is there anything I can do?

I'm going to give it a bash myself first, but that'll probably end in disaster so I might take it to the body shop later.

I have the exact same damage on my car. Mine is slightly bigger than yours (no pun intended) and I had chipsaway look at it last night for a price to repair. The guy said it was just the clear coat on the top that had been burnt away (by our lovely road works crews burning torch) and it would be a relatively simple fix. I was quoted £120 all in.

I would have a bash at it before getting a professional to do it.
Ive seen the sprayer's at work, do small spot repairs like that by using a little laquer then going over the top with 'fade out thinners' to blend it in. Halfords do a small air brush kit that would do the job.

That to me looks like bird poo was left on too long :(

It'll just be your clear coat, and hopefully a simple fix, best of luck matey and hope its all well soon!

You see the white mark near the middle of the patch. That's like a little dent where a stones hit it or the cars hit something. I think that started it on this occasion.
