Hi guys, I can hear a horrible noise coming from the engine bay when the engine returns to idle from mid to high revs. Its like a rattling/chatter noise and is coming from the turbo side of the bay. Is it possibly the turbo needing a bit of attention? Its still boosting very well as the polish guys at work keep finding out when they try to race me in their volvos and vauxhall vectras and astras, they really believe the latter two cars to be really good cars but I tend to disagree.

Anyways any help would be much appreciated. Btw the car has done 91000 miles and is reguraly serviced.

What sort of rattle, a light tinny sound or a heavier solid rattle?
Best thing to do is remove the plastic sound deadening and get someone to rev the engine and have a close inspection.

Ok Im gonna have to take it to audi specialist for a quick look over, The more I listen to the engine while I up the revs a little, the more it sounds like the noise is coming from under the cam cover and not from the heatshield. Im gettin pretty freaked out now, and to be honest the car is barely using oil or water, although fuel consumption has dropped 3mpg but I was just gonna put that down to the cold weather. Although i would love to rule out the turbo wastegate.
