He want's 13k for it but i reckon i could get him down to £12500. It's got 90000 on the clock and it's got all the optional extra's. It's a good 5k less than similar example's of s3's with lower mileage's (35000).

What do you think about it?

I wanted to know about s3's mate. I know diesel's engine's can on for ever and handle high mileage's but wanted to know about what the s3 engine was like.

As long as its being serviced correctly it will be fine. Has it had a new clutch? if not that will go soon...and make sure the turbo is ok! apart from that go for it at that price!! bargain!

It's got full Audi service history and i will find out if he has had a new clutch as i seen on here they do tend to go. How would you check that the turbo is fine??

Whats important here is to buy on condition, not numbers. 10 miles creeping along in a busy city is equivalent to 60 on the motorway and so the high mileage doesn't necessarily put you at a disadvantage to a lower mileage car. The history will obviously offer some reassurance as to whats been done and when.

There are a few S3's on the trader and pistonheads for just under 14k with far fewer miles, granted this ups the budget but might give you peace of mind and a helping hand come re-sale (I appreciate this may not be on your mind at the moment when looking to buy!).

    Good luck

My 2.0Tfsi Quattro has just tripped over 98k now, and so far the only major things that have failed were the clutch (probably down to running around 300hp through it) and the propshaft centre joint (thankfully covered by my warranty). Other than that its been pretty bullet proof and tbh it really does drive like new. The major thing to look out for is service history!

    Regards

Ye i am looking into them too see which i can get at a good price. I probably won't get much money come resale though..

Yea i will go through the service history with a find comb. I will phone the different audi garage's it's been serviced at and ask if they have a record of it going in to them.

Its always worth enquiring about the warranty history as well. Everything that has been completed in the past under warranty will be stored on the system of the respective dealership, although don't be surprised if they are reluctant to tell you any of this.

At that mileage it will be needing its SECOND OEM or even Sachs Clutch, so one clutch change will not be enought unless its been babied and not mapped (Unlikely). Also make sure there's no problems with the turbo or intake and intake manifold flaps as these will be clogged up like hell with oily soot.

As others have said buy on condition and service history, if it has mostly been motorway miles then that is certainly better than something thats done 50k hard miles being driven round town. Get the reg/chassis number and give the dealers who have carried out the services a call just to check what has been done and when including warranty work, also make sure its had a camblet change as well. As others have said possibly factor in a clutch, check the turbo.

It also depends how long you plan to keep it for as well and what miles you do per year.
