    Hi all,

i have been on the forum a couple of times from google searches and always found what i was after so i thought i would sign up as i am currently on the search for a S3.

After missing out on countless S3's due to waiting to sell my car im getting quite inpatient waiting for the right one to come up now i am car less...

I have plans in my head already for the car but want to keep it as oem as possible. Hopefully get it running 320bhp ish so i guess around stage 2, i dont want to go too mad with mods, just the general Miltek system and Revo CAI and a revo map- but any advice would be much apprieciated :)

    Cheers

    Ross

Sound like a good plan Ross and with stage 2 the car will seriously start to come alive, but at same time retain it's reliability having Revo and the other decent quality upgrades you mention. We have a 20% sale on Revo software till the 18th August too, if can get sorted in time. Good luck with the search!

yes i hope to, i was looking into the "linear throttle" option but not entirely sure if i would like it...? also looking into the SPS system too just so i can have a play myself with changing conditions etc.

i've read once you go so far the clutch wont last 5minutes, but if i go that far then i may as well go stage2+ but i think for now i may enjoy it stock and gradually do things, that way i feel i'd get more out of it than doing it all within the first week of ownership.

got a list going already... ££££

Linear throttle's an interesting one & much debated, I think the explination in the attached link should be helpful.
Others have said in basic terms - Linear throttle is better for a true driver/track day hero, whereas with the normal throttle it will make the car feel more willing, so a 'Check this out chaps' as you press the throttle pedal.

    linear throttle

SPS on the S3 is great, as gives you adaptability, being able to switch between modes, good for if someone is borrowing the car or valet mode if you like. also can change settings to suit should you be stuck for some decent V-Power and needing to settle for 95 instead.

In terms of the clutch, it depends on the life it's had so far, it may, may not be an issue. if you're planning on Drag-racing, then yes it will certainly kill it over time, like anything.

Remember you can do it all a stage at a time and feel the gains/benefits as you modify your vehcile, our dealers will only normally charge you an 'Upgrade fee' from stage 1 to 2, 2 to 2+ etc... so won't be costing you double for doing in steps, like other tuning can do. (been a victim of that myself previously).

After reading the link im still undebated. although i think i will stick with a standard map for now and maybe try it when i go up a stage.

For the price of the SPS i think its a nice little extra to have. But upgrade fee's sound good, i have read on a few websites whilst doing my research with big prices for upgrading from stage to stage.

can anyone recommend a revo dealer in Essex?

    | AmD Technik Essex Ltd

AMD Essex are one of our dealers, however please Ensure you state you want a Revo map, as they will do other maps.

Revo Stage one alone makes a huge difference, so as I say you can always go back for stage 2 Revo (£50 upgrade) at later date, to compliment the hardware you'll of added.

My funds couldn't stretch to a facelift, so I went for a low mileage, good spec pre-facelift :)

Was looking for mine for 6 months, so be prepared for a bit of a wait... Totally worth it in the end though! I opened my bedroom curtains this morning and couldn't help grinning as I saw her sitting on my driveway.

Think I need to tame my right foot a little as not getting great MPGs... Still, I'd written off the first tank of petrol to playtime anyways! It's not my fault if the lads at work want me to "give it some beans" as I leave work... ;) Going to ride my bike (push, not motor) to work tomorrow to preserve fuel (although it would give me a legitimate excuse to go for a drive tomorrow night...)

Got friends who live not far from you, so you never know, you might see my car round that way at some point! I was born in Bishops Stortford, so have quite a lot of family & friends nearby. :)

    Good luck with your hunt!

I'm on the verge of being able to afford both really, not looking for anything more than 50k on the clocks with a full history, Nav and Recaro's and Flat bottom steering wheel are my main search points. Recaro's aren't a must but they would be nice lol.

yeah im not looking forward to the gas guzzling but its a part of the fun :)

oh i see, i work in Stortford lol, live about 15miles towards braintree.

cheers, i was hoping something was available on here that was possibly already running stage 1/2 but still yet to find anything, but i need a car by tuesday but dont want to rush buy, ive seen about 4 sell while i've not been ready to buy :( now im ready theres next to nothing out there- typical.

    Hi RossO and Nicki,

As you're both Essex folk,I can wholeheartedly recommend AMDTuning at Lakeside for any work you might need, and if you need any proof, have a look through my build thread.

They've done all of that, and Revo provided the software.

I've already had a look through the monster build of yours :D just makes me jealous !

As for AMD i've heard mixed reviews (not on here) but from various people in the car scene because of bad experiences, unfortunately these bad experiences by certain individuals get exploited more than the good stuff so its hard to judge, but as of yet i am yet to find anything bad on here regarding AMD.

i might sound stupid but i dont know the answer lol- is a Revo map a so called 'live' map? not just generic saved settings loaded up? seeing as every car is different...

I'm thinking about selling my s3, it's stage 2+ and got almost every extra, with the exception of the buckets, although it does have the nice two tone leather, also has uprated clutch, haven't decided on a selling price but was going to price it well as I don't like to mess about when I sell, if you want the info feel free to pm :)

Don't forget that AMDTuning in Lakeside,is not associated with any other part of the companies using the AMD name.

    This may help ....

    http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/a3-s3-...s-amd-stage-1-what-ya-reckon.html#post1841101

The reason I chose AMDTuning for the work on my car was the good feedback, and after I'd spoken to Shaun and Ben,I was impressed by them not trying to force a product on me,and also offering me a lot of good straightforward advice.

When they map a car,the car is put on the RR first, checked over before the map is loaded, and then set up on the RR and the real road.
    Not everyone does that.

The other point is that if they can build a car like mine, and get it running totally reliably over 20 000+ miles with that sort of power, then I think you can trust them.

Revo maps are loaded and then setup and adjusted to an individual's requirements, and to suit the car.....yes,the map can be simply loaded up with generic settings, but that's not what you'll get from AMDTuning.

ok cheers for the info Alex, just the answer i was looking for :)

As for AMD and any other companies i cannot comment as i haven't used them, but AMD seem very popular and that is for a good reason. But the way you have just mentioned that they go about mapping sounds good to me and i would be happy with that :)

i read a blog somewhere about a S3 8l remap from AMD compared to someone else and the results differed so much, but i personally don't think people give enough praise for good work done by companies.

AMD are my first choice in mind right now after that comment so cheers for the info :)

My policy is to reward good work and service with the recommendation it deserves......likewise,if someone makes a mess, that goes online too.

AMDTuning have my complete trust, and I've been back there often enough.......pay them a visit,or even just give Ben a call and say I said you should give them a ring.
    I think you'll be pleased.

I agree with you there ! too many people are too quick to jump on the bad work band wagon imho.

yeah i certainly will, just need to find the car now, if it's stock i'll try and leave a fair wack aside to go to stage 2/2+. Most of that going on a Miltek full system.

anything i should look out for on a S3?

still no joy on my search :( getting frustrated now. i think i'll have to settle without the Recaro's :(

how much can the standard clutch take? im only thinking of stage 2 atm, unless the extra's for stage 2+ would be worth the added cost...?

the standard clutch won't Take much, mine slipped on stage 1, you simply can't tune it and expect a decent life from the clutch, and the upgrade will cost well over 1k in most cases, mine was £1150 fitted. I was the same as you when I bought mine, I wanted nav, flat bottom , recaros etc as well as the tuning and clutch already done, but you will really struggle to find one, in the end I gave up and bought a clean low mileage standard car with almost all the options on it - I just had to go without the recaros. then the wallet emptying commenced and I bought all the parts for 2+ including clutch aswell as cambelt and water pump done and Haldex service and regular service all within the first couple of months.... The car goes great but that was a big chunk of what could have been a much needed house deposit!
