Hi guys,

My first post and its a slightly distressing one ha.

I decided to make the move from BMW to Audi and so far its nothing but trouble so looking for some advice.

I bought an Audi A3 Sportback the 8pa i think, when i bought it i was told i needed to replace the glow plugs and i was given new ones with the car, the turbo was slightly noisy but i did some reading up first and nearly everyone said that this is common and its fine. i got the glow plugs changed and the car still struggles to start, i was then told it was the cam shaft sensor so i got this changed (£230) and little difference. so i went to an audi specialist and ive been told the timing belt needs changed and it needs a new starter motor. So, timing belt changed (£300) when i drove off from the garage my car wouldn't boost, it had gone in to limp mode, i took it back the garage and he put it on the computer and it had an overboost fault, the turbo now whistles ridiculously and ive been told as the timing belt has been done and the timing of the engine has been sorted i need to replace the turbo, so ive got a new starter motor being put in on friday to sort the starting problems (£280) and ive been told im looking around £250+ for a reconditioned turbo plus vat then labour on top. Can anybody please advise me if i should be looking at anything different or if im being taken for a ride, ive no idea about audis and im just getting my wallet emptied constantly.

Thanks for any advice,

Liam

Hi Liam,
Welcome to Audi Sport.

Really sorry to hear what's happened.

ICE based cars can be painful to own sometimes and having been through something similar recently (paid a grand to fix a few things, started with a cam belt change) I sympathise.

Where are you based? I can recommend a good specialist if you're in London.

starting issue could be the battery, turbo might just need a good (proper) clean

I'm in Cumbria. so far in 6 weeks i've replaced the coil springs, wheel bearings, cam sensor, timing belt + water pump. now the starter motor and turbo, it seems like the timing belt change has opened up a can of worms. I love the car but there will come a point where i cant keep putting money into it and i've only had it 6 weeks.

It's a brand new battery, apparently the starter motor is a common issue and its not giving out enough power to fire up the engine
