Hi, just bought an S- line B7 tdi 140. Love the car, but realised that there is no trip computer. Out of curiosity I borrowed a vcds from a friend and started exploring. I set the trip computer in 17 Instrument to DIS with 2 trip memory options, then clicked Do it!
I started to get 2 warnings:
1. Low washer fluid warning.
2. Number plate bulb warning

Being new to Audi, I thought these are faulty so I started stripping the washer bottle out. Surprise, there is no sensor in the washer bottle of my B7 tdi (2005 BRE)! And both my number plate bulbs are working.

I then change the DIS setting to its original (S-line without trip computer) but the above warning lights remain.

I tried disconnecting the battery for 30 mins, but no joy. Warnings still there.
Can anyone advise please? I know my car don't have the washer sensor now, how do I clear the washer warning if that is the case? I tried clear all codes in vcds but no luck!

Can anyone kindly help please? Thanks in advance.

Have you done an auto-scan to see what it brings up? If you can post here we can try to help.

I have but there is no errors on license plate bulb or washer fluid at all! Is there anyway to RESET the ecu?

Below is the log anyway:

Try looking through the different control modules mate to see if you stumble upon an option called something like "washer level sensor installed". And see if there is perhaps a tick in the box. If there is untick it. Maybe whatever you have done has made some global changes across your control modules.
Not sure about the number plate light issue but possibly something similar.
Let us know how you get on.

Looks like you have changed the coding on the instrument cluster. It's saying that it can't see the transmission ECU. Is your car automatic?.
Do yo know what the original coding was.
I believe vcds keeps a log of changes that are made and you may be able to find the original module coding,

Karl

In order to properly switch on the DIS, you need to change the wiper stalk (not sure if you'd done this part or just tried switching it on via VCDS?) - you also either need to properly install the washer bottle sensor, or - if you're not fussed about that functionality and want to save yourself a lot of hassle, you need to run a repair wire to dummy the car in to always thinking there's water in the washer bottle. There are plenty of instructions on here which go in to more detail about that.

Regarding your number plate lights - are you running aftermarket / LED ones? This may explain the bulb out message despite the bulbs still working fine.

Don't know why you're panicking as VCDS saves all changes made in a folder called Debug, in the Rosstech program directory.

No mine is Manual.

Mine is a Manual.

I haven't change the wiper stalk was just toying around with the Instrument cluster.

My number plate lights are LEDs but reading online LEDs predominantly affects post 2010 model but will check. I believe this warning is triggered by the DIS setting I made.

Hi, I have uninstalled vcds once since my original scan (before I change the DIS setting). Might not be able to get it back?

But for an S-line without trip computer, in the Cluster options, I now have 2 choices:

1. DIS
2. Highline without DIS

Should I go for 1 or 2? Mine is not a Highline but S line.
Can anyone with a similar car confirm this please? It's a 2.0 Tdi year 2005 BRE engine with cruise control but without trip computer.

Thanks very much guys.

If I remember right, you don't get the bulb-out warnings before switching on the DIS, so you'll probably find that the error was already there for the lights - just not switched on.

Led number plate lights can fire errors as they just don't draw enough current to make the car realise theres a light there, hence the need for a resistor which tricks the car in to thinking the bulb is drawing the equivalent of a normal bulb.

Options:
- Stick normal bulbs back in, that should clear your bulb out error but wont address the washer bottle error
- Get error free LED units, this will clear your bulb out error but wont address the washer bottle error
- Or, Return your settings to what they were before and live without DIS
- Or, do the DIS retrofit properly. A stalk can be bought from ebay fairly cheap, the repair wire is pennies, and the work involved is fairly straight forward if you follow the guides which can be found online.

Thanks a lot. I might get normal bulbs in then. This should clear the bulb warning.

I think I will live without DIS for the time being. So to do this, I assume I will use vcds to set DIS active, scan and clear the warning code for washer. Then revert to no DIS setting (option 2 in 17 instrument)? This should take care of the washer warning I assume?
Sorry still fairly new to vcds. Thanks.

If you're intent on keeping the LED ones, there are decent units out there which can be had for about £25 which wont throw errors even with DIS activated. Or you could go the oem route but by the time you buy the proper audi units and wiring harnesses, you're in to the guts of £80 if I remember right.

Sorry.... i'm not able to comment on the VCDS stuff as that's not something i'm particularly clued up on. Hopefully someone else who knows VCDS can help you on that one!

As to the washer bottle warning I'm sure you have to link out 2 of the pins behind the clocks ? I'm not entirely sure which 2 but deffo heard of it done before !

Ive just ordered and fitted led number plate lights that don't show an error on the dash they cost me £12.99 for the pair off Ebay if you would like the link drop me a pm (im not sure if links are allowed)
