Hello.

Got a bit of a problem on my 2.0 TDI 140.

The yellow engine management light flicks on and off but when i put it to VAGCOM, this fault code came up.

I erased it and it came back instantly:

P3103 V157 - Motor Intake Manifold Flap.
The internet says:
19559/P3103 - Motor for Intake Manifold Flap (V157), Malfunction

Possible Symptoms
  • Higher fuel consumption - (Mine seems fine, Doing 53mpg yesterday)
  • Insufficient acceleration above 100-120 kmh (Nope, mine keeps accelerating well above that speed)
  • Shutting off the engine is not nice and easy (Erm...No, It goes off when i pull the key out)
Possible Causes
  • Intake Manifold Flap (V157) or the motor for V157 doesn't work well.
Possible Solutions
  • Check wiring and connections (Which wiring?? - fuses are fine)
  • Check / Replace V157, but probably you have to replace the whole EGR
Special Notes
  • The Intake Manifold Flap (V157) has a function in the EGR and in shutting off the (diesel) engine.
The only thing which is wrong is it idles a bit rough sometimes when cold and sometimes, when reversing out the driveway when the cars cold, it stalls....(its a DSG)

The internet says the EGR valve is at fault...Is it? Also, would this mean it is faulty or it needs a good clean. Cars done 60k.

Help would be reallly really appreciated :D

Same problem in my car mate

send me your email address and i will forward you an email i was sent about the problem - i havent had a chance to look into it but it involves changing a fuse and maybe cleaning the throttle body - at worst, replacing it!

I have been driving away at the car for a few months with the same fault and nothing has gone wrong yet (touching wood) so you are ok for the time being but if you can get it sorted, do it!

See the above thread, I had the problem and it ended up been a fuse blown. The air con fans are on the same fuse. The fuse which was blown was in the engine compartment under a panel next to the battery

That fuse blew very recently on my car and i chnaged it and it blew again but then bought a proper 10amp fuse (not one i found on the floor) and it seems to be ok.

I'm going to give it a scrub tommorrow with some carb cleaner and see how it goes....

Thanks for the link + info

Cheers

I had mine changed by Audi Assist under warranty - there is an improved part available.

You may be able to just clean it up to stop it sticking, I'd check the EGR valve at the same time.

just wondering was that the fuse or EGR valve you had changed? im a bit dim you see:o.k:

my car seems to be a bit stuttery when cold notice when i change gear.
wasnt sure if it was similar?

intake manifold flap seems to be a flaky part - had mine changed under
warranty about 1/12 ago - talk to a stealer?

Right - Stripped off the Intake motor Flap with the EGR, Gave it a dam good clean with carb cleaner and put it back on but the rubber seal on the big thick rubber pipe had stretched when i was taking it off so not sure how it went as cars not driving good atm...There's too much air going in as the seal isn't tight.

However, theres a "zzzzzzzzz" noice coming from the motor for the intake flap.....

And also, when i had the flap out, i was pushing it (the circle bit which opens and closes) in and out and every 9/10 times, the flap would need more force to push it in to open....

i think its knackered but going to buy the seal tommorrow and kind of hoping it will work properly as im skint but...fingers crossed.

But my cars only done 60k and there was atleast a cm of muck and dirt in there....

Going to get the seal tommorrow and see how it goes but it doesnt look good atm.

Thanks for everyones help though

Got the seal - Got the code erased and it worked for half the day but then, the yellow engine management light came on and the flap seized again...its just making a loud buzzing noise now becuase the throttle wont open..

That explains why every 9/10 times when i pushed it in, it seized.

Any ideas on how and where to get a cheap one....?

I have the same problem at present, was told initially to replace the EGR valve which I did only to be told that the IMF needs replace too. Got one from Euro Car Parts not cheap but less than the dealers. Whats the code that need erased?

Cheers matey - I'm going to hunt around to see if i can get it cheaper but if not, I'll get my local garage to get me one as im sure they have a trade account there.

Did it come with all the seals or did you need to buy them new?

Cheers

You could try http://www.247spares.co.uk the cheapest I got quoted there at the time was £75.00 but that was for a used one with only a 90 day warranty. I gave it to the mechanic thats fitting it for me, the rubber O ring was there he said he could reuse the metal gasket between the IMF and EGR as it was only fitted last week.

Personally I would go for a new one as the part was improved and unless you are sure that it is a new version, you risk it happening again with the replaced part.

Paul

Given that the part on the car failed at 50k I guess that the repacement part, if its not the newer version, would last similar mileage so saving close on £100 (including vat) on the genuine part kinda makes the replacement part worthwhile. Its a Peirburg part and from what I gather they are a German OE manufacturer so quality should be fine.

Does anyone have the part number for the new version?

I've heard of these parts going at 20k (on a friends Golf GTI) but I'd rather be safe than sorry and just get the latest version as I'm planning on keeping my car till i finish uni (3 years).

Cheers

PS. My meeting with an Audi Service rep didn't go to plan. After me making a right fuss infront of potential customers who were buying cars, they moved me into a separate office with the manager and then he said Audi may give a good will gesture.

I stuck to my guns and said i wanted it fitted free and he said the max they will be able to do is around the 50% as a gesture (no gurantee though) as its a common part and i dont service my car from Audi, not had it long and on top, they wont use my diagonostic report becuase they only trust there own so they wanted another £55.

In all, even if i got the 50% gesture, I'd end up paying £300 or so which doesn't make sence as i can currently get the part for £160 from Euro Car Parts and fit it myself...

I then made a massssive fuss and said I'm never buying another Audi.. Going to get my Dad to cancel the order for his R8 (whcih doesn't exsist), sell my Audi etc. etc. etc. and i got a 10% discount on my next purchase from Audi...:keule:

All in all, a waste of time :D

Give your local vag TPS a call they will give you the part number of the latest unit. The part number they gave me was 038128063 L.

Cheers mate.

I got the same one too - 038-128-063-L.

Mine was from a mate of mine....

I'll drop them a bell tommorrow to confirm! Can i sign up with the website and blufff my details even though I'm not trade ?

Cheers

TPS quoted £211 + Vat trade price, and £222 + Vat retail so there wasnt much of a discount from them anyway. If you know anyone that works in a garage ask them if its ok to make a cash sale in their name.

I got the part from Euro, fitted and the light went out immediately, need to clear the history fault codes.

Quote Euro the audi part number they can cross match it.

Is this the new revised part..

Oo...So TPS are not that cheap.

I'll just go with Euro and my garage should be able to get me the part at Trade price..I hope!

I'm just waiting on a mate of mine who should get back to me by monday!

Cheers

Fuse F8 was blown in my car so going to do a diagnostic on the car this evening and see what it brings up!

That was the same problem with mine, the air con fans are also on the same fuse so if the fuse is blown you may also get the ECON light come on as the air cons fans wount run.

The flap must of stuck at some point to blow the fuse, but mines been ok since. Its F8 in the engine compartment fuse box.

When mine went it was perminantly jammed - it kept blowing the fuse and the Audi assist guy couldn't move it by hand.

Paul

Mines jams everynow and then... and te fuse blew

I'm still trying to source part now! Eurocarparts said they dont have it anymore :S

Theres an AUDI INTAKE FLAP,DIESEL ENGINE VW,Skoda,Seat on ebay, item number

It seems a bit dodgy....

I know the guy that's selling it and we had a quick chat...

I'd rather put in the extra 40 and get it brand new with a years warranty but see how it goes..

Thanks for that!

And also, my car went into limp mode today.

The EGR valve jammed, idled really rough when in "P" and "D".

Is this a symptom too ?

I replaced the F8 fuse and all was hunky dory until the econ light came back on later in the day - looks like I am going to have to replace the flap

Anyone a part number and price for a new one from audi?

Are they hard to replace yourself?

Audi is £266.

Its not too hard to do it yourself....

Take the air filter pipe off for better access and then upclip the hose cip under it.

2 screws on the side, 3 underneath and 2 (or 3) holding it onto the EGR valve. Don't forget to replace the seals and the metal gasket (the seal is £3.30 !! Wt a rip! And clean out the EGR whie your at it with some carb-cleaner! (£5 from Halfords) About 3 Hours Job with cuts and grazes free :D

The link below from Murrays Direct is probs who I'll go with (good part with guarantee)

Can anyone get a better price that £181 ?

PS. Euro Car Parts ont sell it anymore... :(

The ECON light comes on if there is a problem with your aircon, just like a safe mode

I have an intermittent fault at the minute which causes this light to come on which is rather annoying - I just havent had the chance yet to get it sorted :(
