Hi everyone I have an Audi A5 2.7TDI

I got the car serviced, they changed oil and oil filter and fuel filter.

Now the oil light is on saying I need to "put more oil in but I may keep driving"

There is enough oil as the garage changed the oil in front of me.

What could the problem Be?

(The a5/s5 section don't like replying so I posted here)

Thanks

The garage may not have put enough oil in although you were watching. Best is to check the oil dip stick level and do it when the engine is cold.

After a service I always check either when engines cold or the next morning to see if there is right amount of oil in.

Oil pick up pipe, sump off and replace or clean the old one, do it quick as you can starve to bottom end of oil and new engine.

As what audismart has said. I had the same problem and it also started with an oil low light after a service!!

So it needs new oil pick up pipes ?

Or does it just need cleaning ?

I don't think the 2.5 TDI's suffer from blocked oil pick up. Have you had the problem before? Top it up with the correct amount of oil and you should be good to go.

It's 2.7TDI. It's never had a problem before. I got it checked out today from Audi specialist. They said as long as car is running fine it's all okay.

What I think it maybe a sensor or something. Or might need resetting via VCDS or something.

It's never ever given mechanical problems. Car still runs and drives as it should. No noise etc.

The garage put enough oil in 7 litres as I was there. I think I'll just get a dipstick and check it manually. Rather than electronic.

Why starting with pickup pipes?
I would start with placing car on some flat ground (no up or downhill) and after letting it seat at least 1 hour check on dipstick the oil level, if it's into limits then check oil level sensor (at bottom of sump), might get dirty, but anyway will involve change of oil again. Then internals of engine like pick-up pipes etc..

It has electronic dipstick, MMI.

It's never given oil problems.

Have put in fresh 7 litres of oil in again. Cars been running fine, like it should.

Have tried resetting oil light via VCDS with no luck.

I think it will most likely be a sensor.

In fact that I'm saying, oil level sensor is first to being checked, anyway you can not get electronic dipstick, oil level sensor getting it's role. Or it will be just so dirty or it's faulty.

Don't mess about. If the car has an MMI with electronic oil level read out, but you don't trust it's accuracy, go and purchase Audi part number 059 115 611 AB which is a dipstick for the A5 2.7 tdi & 3.0 tdi engines. From what I've read online it costs about £10, brand new from the dealers.

Get one and check your oil level the good old fashioned way. For £10-ish, its worth the piece of mind.
