Yeah I read that a while ago, it did say on the german forum that the original map overheated the lambdas. He might know if there's a map for yours though?

LOL, was over in Spain/Gib there for 9 days - better weather for sure! Mind you, landing back in Prestwick was an experience - never been in a plane that skidded sideways on landing before! Will await your post visit report...

Just a thought, would this update overwrite a remap?

I dont think it will Pete, there are all sorts of ECU updates applied to cars and I think they are specific corrections not complete over writes...To be frank, i dont think anyone would notice anyway. My remap made no difference on paper or in drivability and petrol consumption stayed the same. 250bhp before and after...Torque went up a bit but not that you would notice when driving.

Also as the update corrects an over fuelling issue you could actually expect a performance increase from this as well..

I have to say, I always thought that a software update did overwrite a remap tbh and that if the dealer reflashed your ECU you could have the remap put back on FOC

Could well be the case Ju, in some ways i hope it is because the remap was a waste of time and just adds another non std bit to go wrong really.

An extra 20 lb ft of torque isn't to be sniffed at though. Mine has always had a map since I've had it, so don't want to lose any benefit it gives. I've heard on good authority that a map on the 3.2 is good for fuel economy too, and again don't want that to get even worse...

Prior to any overwriting, I will at least check I can get the map replaced FOC.

I haven't, but I know a friendly local mechanic that has! I need to get my ECU light reset anyway after changing my dead MAF, so if you can give me pointers of what to look for, I can get the relevant info from it.

If you run a fault code check on the engine you will get a set of figures like this

I've read through that thread Jonathon but unfortunately I don't think he had any joy getting an update. I did notice however that according to his sig he is running the customized software by Zoran.

Best i cam come up with is change the ECU ? coxy had a spare and swapped it earlier in these troubles. Either a later one that has the update pre installed or an earlier one that will take the update..

Yeah as Paddy says it probably looks like you need a different ECU or a compatible map from the Audi tech dept.

Just an update with the new map, the car is definately 100% completely fixed now. All that hesitation under 2k has gone and also the car feels a heck of a lot nicer to drive. Smoother and more urgent with more power at the top end and although not a massive improvement mpg wise it is better.
I Still find it hard to believe it was just a simple software update after all and why it's not documented with the Audi dealers here in the UK. Even now the dealers are being obstructive in applying the update for people that want it and seem to want £120 to diagnose what they can't actually diagnose!. Just a simple "oh yeah, we could do that no problem" would be a start. It's not as if it's labour intensive is it.

Just done some more research and there seems to be a 022-997-033 for a bdb manual gearbox car.....

Wondering wether that is a replacement for 022 977 032b and what software revision that holds....

I don't wish to hijack this thread, but i've had a mini panic.... I put a deposit down on a 2004 3.2 quattro (manual i.e. not DSG) at a large dealer (non-audi) at the weekend and had noted that the revs fluctated a bit around 2000rpm. say + - 200. i have now read this thread! it sounds very much like what has been described here. Since it is a dealer (and i have 3 months warranty), am I right in thinking i can ask them to put it right before I collect the vehicle? I mentioned it when I was there and he put a 'works request' into his mechanics to check it out. Should I just provide him with the follwoing, he should be able to get it sorted from that, yeah?

    Engines:
    starting from 8/2003 BDB
    starting from 9/2004 BMJ
starting from 11/2005 BOY (only the first variants)

The following engine devices can be updated:
    022906032CA
    022906032CB
    022906032GH
    022906032GJ

Last conditions available for the dealers:
    022,906,032 APPROX.: 8P HS (BDB): 8087
    022,906,032 CB: 8P DSG (BDB): 8088
    022,906,032 GH: 8P HS (BMJ): 8035
    022,906,032 GJ: 8P DSG (BMJ): 8036

    TPL procedure number: 2005748/4
    Internal message code 8P01A005

    CD No. 4F0 906,961 N

Thanks in advance. I'm due to pick it up next wednesday.. so he's got a week or two to get it sorted. fingerts crossed!!! im really excited other than this!

    I Rob
Sounds like it has not had this flash installed for the ECU. As a 2004 3.2 it would be required.

I would offer them this info but it will have to go to an Audi main dealer to be flashed.

don't let it spoil your excitement, its a 30 mins fix and you will have a great car. Keep us informed :)

Thats assuming that Audi are willing to carry out the update with little fuss!!

Is it ONLY Audi main dealers that have the equipment to carry out the work, would an independent specialist have the diagnostic / flash tools?

Paddy, where in Surrey are you?! What main dealer are you booked in with to have this update carried out? Are they insisting on an initial doagnostic check first?!

I think 04 will be ok..I think edition as a late 05 got caught in the change ... i had a look on ebay at controllers and our part no comes up for manual VR6 VW's so they would be quite a bit older than our 3.2's

    Only guessing mind..

I don't have access to VAG COM, how do I know if my car will accept the software, its an 05 plate DSG. Is there somewhere on the chassis plate with the engine number on?

No rob, it's nothing to do with the engine number, it's the ECU. You need either a vag com or a dealer scan. Saying that I think you'll be OK

    Basically whats posted above.
There does seem to be a lack of co-operation from the dealers on this, probably down to the practice of charging a diagnosis fee, but it certainly helps to have a friendly and understanding dealer.
