I am Lee, it's been almost 8 months since I bought the car.
Most of the work was done at no cost to me so in that respect it's not been that bad
The main cost was the chain, it did need doing as it was noisy and I managed to get that done by the supplying garage.
The oil pump did seem to make a difference but the underlying problem was still there. We did think it was the map, but we were all under the impresion that there wasn't one available.
I do think it is better on mpg but as you say it's a bit too early to tell
Sent you a PM with the dealership details

If it will not rev then you need to push the brake harder

It works in the following way.
At standstill, you take off ESP, put the car in Sport, put your left foot on the brake, put your right foot on the gas the revs should level out at about 3000 and when you are ready to go take your foot off the brake...

well I have just been into teesside Audi, and I have to say I dont want to give them my car. They seem like a pack of sharks to me.

Not interested in the slightest on the information I have to offer, and got 'we will check for any software updates, and we may do a diagnostics if we dont find anything'

to which I replied, not at cost to me you wont.

I just dont want to leave my car with them. :(

They said they didnt need a CD and could download the update, is that rubbish? why would huddersfield audi have to obtain a CD?

I presumed they could sometimes download the update from there system (if it's made availible to the dealers) or get it in CD form........

Can't be that difficult can it for a dealer to just say ok we will add that software to your car on your request....

I believe they might be able to update online but they told me they needed the CD, I wasn't going to argue as they were actually quite helpful once I said no thanks to a diagnostic check. I just gave them all the details and after checking it out, they said the CD was available to order so should be possible.

Runs like a dream now, feels quicker, sounds better and the gear changes feel smoother!

Did audi say" when" they would get back to you Jonathan ? I think as they didnt even acknowledge my e-mail i might just go ahead and book mine in. If they dont get in touch i might take this to the motoring press ?

Yes, write to the press. Try Autocar, etc. I can just imagine how tedious it must be to deal with a smug Audi dealership who know nothing about the problem and would rather not do the job than appear to be more ignorant than the car's owner. It really is a case of "computer says no" attitude.

right i am booked in at huddersfield audi for the same.
Least they have the kit and they are aware of the problem.

long journey for me but i would rather do that than have the chew of the muppets up here.

That's a heck of a long way to travel!. The only thing that Huddersfield have over the others is the CD. I didn't give them chance to diagnose it nor did they take any interest in the before and after results.
Although it's worth it, I don't see why you should have to travel so far! When you booked in for?

3.2 ju how did you get round the problem of Audi wanting to charge 1 hours labour for a diagnostics check beforehand?! My local dealership has acknowledged there is an update available but want to charge me this first too!!

I just told them I didn't want that as I knew the problem and the what the reported fix was and to be fair to them they didn't push it any further, just go down and ask to speak to a master tech as you should get a better response from him.

It's honestly the best £56 I ever spent!

Thanks for the info, I need to sort out a spare key too, would it be possible for them to carry out the updates whilst it is there for the immobiliser coding?!

2 birds with one stone and all...

Just a quick update, my local Audi (no names but Epsom) are insistant on them carrying out an initial diagnostic check. I have sent another e-mail saying that I am unwilling to pay for this initial diagnosis as I have previously spent money diagnosing the problem and know the reported fix. I am waiting for them to get back to me with their reply.

Still having trouble with my local dealer, they say that they won't install the update without diagnostics prior. I spoke to the service manager who said the reason was that if there was no need for the update then it could cause more (and worse) problems!!

This sounds like scaremongering tactics, how can an update cause problems even if there is NO issues?! Surely it's up to the customer what work is carried out as at the end of the day they are paying!!

Not sure what else can be done, if I do resolve this and manage to get them to agree to just install the update, how can I be sure they won't 'make something' go wrong just to prove a point?!?

I've reported here before (couple of years ago, I think) that the Service Reception at Epsom Audi in Driftbridge displayed a penchant for treating their customer (me) as a muppet. I think that "arrogant" about covers it. I haven't used them since, so I have no idea if they've changed their tune.

I have a March 2005 3.2 DSG (BMJ engine code) but without any of the reported symptoms, yet, having done about 52,000 miles now. I usually use mine for long journeys and public transport for anything else. I will be interested in the experiences of others in upgrading their ECU firmware since I'm in two minds as to whether I should bother. It is unclear to me still why some owners suffer the symptoms but others don't.

Sounds like you need to visit a different dealer tbh. Why would Audi Germany release an update for exactly the same engine if it would cause problems.
Too early to tell yet Ian as I don't use the car through the week. Might try and pop over tomorrow afternoon if I get finished early enough and say Hello

Good to here. If you park up and rev it to 1500-2000rpm can you here any popping in the exhaust at all? Just curious.

Is it worth trying another Audi dealer?! There is Wimbledon Audi not too far, may give them a call and see what they have to say!!

Is it worth mentioning that I am considering writing to Audi UK regarding their customer assistance and see if that helps?!

I don't see why an update would be brought out that could cause further damage so may mention this too, think they are just trying it on tbh

I don't use my nearest dealer as tbh I don't think they deserve my business.
Why do you need a diagnostic as the software IS the latest update for your engine. It's like going into quickfit for an exhaust and having to pay for a diagnostic first!

Thats daft because the update is 2005 and aimed at existing cars then and they only made them from 2004.
