Help, hole in bell housing

I was looking under my bonnet and noticed that in have a hole in the top of the bell housing!! It looks like it should have a cover over it? Any ideas?

Normally has a rubber bung in it but not unusual for it to be missing

Yeah I also have a hole there, also freaked out about it, found that the bung was like£10-15 and thought f*** that... haha
