Help - coolant warning light on S3

Hi All,

As per title I got the horrible beeps and coolant warning symbol on the DIS this morning when starting up. Coolant level seems fine and this disappeared when I switched off the ignition and started up again. Any idea if why this might have happened?

I had this on my golf - just had to top it up ever so slightly & it went off.

We had this on our Golf GTi Anni.

1st time - turned out to be Coolant Temp Sensor
2nd time - Water pump
3rd time - Coolant level sensor

Finally, all is ok now.

OK - read the threads, and thanks for those. If I need to top up must this be coolant or can I put in a small amount of water without worrying?

Water is what I used, I think a small amount is fine.

yeah ... try 100ml at a time, until it stops the warning going off.
