Hi guys, I know this has probably been asked before and I have tried searching the forum, but I need some help with choosing a CAI for my A3.

I did a bit of research some months back and eventually set my sights on the ITG Maxogen....however when I have finally come to inquire about getting one....I'm being told they don't exist anymore?

I think they may be rebadged now as the VWR intake? I'd get that instead but its ludicrously expensive @£418....I thought the ITG was pricey at £350!

I have the 2.0 TSI CCZA engine, I'd like the intake to make a nice noise but not so loud that its becomes unbearable. There seems to be loads for TSFI but im told some of these dont fit my car?

I am stage 1 remapped, the only other engine mod is GFB DV+.

Awesome have recommended the Carbonio but I've read on here that people hate it and it causes issues?

Does anyone have any suggestions? All help gratefully received!

    Pete.

Hey man, thanks for the info...does this fit straight on, no mod needed etc? I take it the Golf has the same engine type.

Hi mate, when i got the revo version of it originally, it was too tight of a fit, so i spoke to revo who then sold me the pipercross one of it from their development store. Other than one mounting point for the heat shield it fits pretty much spot on. Yea the golf mk6 and the scirocco have the same engine

I have the APR Carbonio - no noise and most others 'in the know' don't like it but I've not had any problems over the last two years. Haven't tried any others so not in a position to make an objective comparison. I originally wanted a VWR but they weren't in stock at the time.

Thanks for posting...I'd like the VWR kit too, but I'm not paying £420 for it.....it looks exactly like the old ITG Maxogen to me which was £350.

I have a mate who has the carbonio on his A4 2.0 TFSI Quattro, and he likes it....I just see the reviews on here for the A3 though and I dont want to make a mistake.

the cheap and cheerful option is the K&N typhoon 69-9756TFK which is supposed to fit, seen them flying around ebay for £80 or so used..... never tried it though

I'm quite happy to pay £250 - £300 for a decent intake, I was even gonna stretch to the £350 for the ITG...I just wanna make sure I dont throw my money away on a **** product. I saw a group test of intakes in a magazine some months back (can't remember which one now, wish I could) but anyway the Pipercross did well....It was very very close to the ITG in flow so I may well go for that...the K&N came last, which I was shocked about but they said it had the smallest size intake so I guess size matters!

Hold the phone, just found this:

    http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=191198925366&alt=web

Works out to £317.80 plus whatever the postage is.

Confused again now though, there is a WVR Kit on Awesome for the Golf Gti mk6 @299 which from what Im told should fit? But ITG told me I need a kit with a different part number?

ah fair play, don't think it includes the big pipe for that £298 one... nor the ebay one.

Will ring Awesone tomorrow and find out...will the lack of pipe have much of an impact? Im not going beyond stage 1 so I guess it won't? Will see what they say.

afaik that pipe is what you need for stage 2, so stage 1 that intake would be perfect!

Have a look at the revised MTC kit cheap enough with proven gains £179 for pipe work then you just need a 89mm neck filter

Thanks for all the advice guys, I spoke to Awesome today and they confirmed that its the MK6 Golf GTI kit that I need (thanks for the tip sliced).

They also said that should I wish to go stage 2 later (which I don't think I will, but the option is there) that the carbonio stage 2 pipe can be used as an upgrade option.

Think I'm all set now then, its my birthday soon....I know what I'll be having ;-)
