Non-OEM ECU? It surprises me that's possible. I would have thought only proprietary ECUs would be available (to protect trade secrets).

I'd be wary of repairing the existing one if this is the second time it's had issues. An extra £100 for the non-OEM one seems a better bet if you (understandably) don't want to pay for the new OEM unit.

Just waiting on confirmation of part numbers from Audi, the company wouldnt proceed with an order unless i give them the exact number. Which is good on them i spose as most would just take ya money and say no you should of checked first. Dont think im even going to consider a repair, so if these guys cant help looks like Dealer supplied part it is.

I would just be severely pissed if i get the new ecu and the problem persists, after all ive already spent £520 on the control relay and time etc.

If she starts moaning about the car being expensive you can (attempt to) console her with the fact that your problem is unusual and just the luck of the draw you get with second-hand cars. I've not previously heard of ECU troubles with the B6/B7 S4.

That's right - there's the water ingress issue but nothing directly relating to the ECU that I've heard about.

If its an exchange unit i would imagine that this is a genuine item that has been repaired and as the case has some extra sealant on it as well maybe your car has in the past suffered water ingress into the ecu case and this is a result of the water over time. So new is the way to go to hopefully guarantee that this issue is resolved once and for all before you start to lose confidence in the reliability.

I will speak to the dealers today and get them to double check the area it lives in for cracks any signs of water etc, I am a wash freak and am washing it usually 3-4 times a week, so may be the case :(

On the plus side, because the car has now been off the road for 3 weeks, the Audi dealership said they have had to inform Audi UK, so they get involved in sourcing the new ecu from Germany, which should speed things up dramatically, (there words not mine).

(or were they just saying that to try cheer me up)!..lol

Another update, just spoken to Dealership this morning who have informed me that the ecu HAS arrived, Before they fitted it the car would not fire up at all, they fitted it and bang, it jumped in to life!! So they just want it for 2 more days then hopefully shes back home..

Sounds positive, at least. No doubt you'll be driving around all day when it's returned, having missed the V8 for so long.

Last up date on this thread. HURRAY I got my car back today, alls running perfectly, I have an essay report written if the tests they carried out. Final bill £1631.10. But the noise is worth it, and after driving an oil burner for a month you certainly notice the difference in acceleration.lol
