Please Help! I need some advice please on the reliabilityand quality of an A4 3.0 Sport Quattro Auto as I am looking at buying one which is a 2001 51 with 92000 miles, The car is going to need a cambelt and waterpump which All Audi Specialists Bristol have quoted £710 to do so I just want to make sure I don't buy something that will let me down once I have pumped all that money into it as unfortunately my pride and joy A4 2004 1.8T 190 Sport CVT with only 80k has been a real friday car and now the CVT gearbox has failed me.

Any advice would be much appreciated...

    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hi
I have the same car on a 2002 51 plate with 86,000 miles. Cambelt and waterpump was done just before I purchased the car. You should be able to save £200-250 if you go to a good independent but use oem parts. Get them to check tensioners and pulleys as well when the front is off. Gearbox is tiptronic and not as fragile as CVT.

If possible get the car scanned before purchase as this will indicate any issues, also check all electrical items work.

I am very pleased with my car once I got used to the fuel consumption !

    Regards

Also change the thermostat at the same time as water pump and cambelt.
Surprised Audi can't do it for a similar or cheaper price than that indy you've been quoted.
My local Audi dealer was around £500 a couple years back so expect a little increase - bargained with them to get it down to the same as a 4-cylinder engine timing belt change.

Check with an Audi dealer that the car has had the ignition coils replaced under the recall of around a year ago also - Workshop Campaign 28E9.
(Would normally be around 6x £38 just for parts.)
