heater control valve

Does any one know where the heater control valve is located on an 1997 A4 (2.8 quattro)? I bought the Haynes book and it doesn't show where this is located, just that it is my problem.

It's all behind the centre console mate. Unless your after the heater matrix shut off solenoid, which is by the bulkhead in the engine bay.

Thanks. I bought the Haynes book for my car and it stated that either the heater core (what you're calling the heater matrix?) is plugged or the heater control valve is stuck. I think this is the same as what you are calling the "heater matrix shut off solenoid" Do you have pictures?

There are two hoses coming off of the heater core that disappear under the engine, is this where you are talking.
